The Museum of London and the Museum of London Docklands connect people with the lived experience of London, enriching the understanding and appreciation of London and all its people - past, present, future. They are now seeking to appoint an IT leader who is knowledgeable and experienced, but above all enthusiastic about how technology can support operational and commercial objectives within the cultural sector. As the Head of IT, you will be comfortable operating at a strategic level and in the detail. You should have hands on experience in Microsoft and Cloud technologies.
This senior role operates at the heart of the Museum, collaborating with colleagues across the Group. Working alongside the Chief Financial Officer, the role will have responsibility for leading and developing an effective IT function for the Museum of London. The postholder will also be part of the Museum's senior leadership team, working closely with and supporting colleagues across the Museum.
The Museum of London is at a major crossroads in its history, with a move to fantastic new premises at West Smithfield planned in the next few years. The Head of IT will be critical to optimising the transition to the new space whilst leading and managing the development and implementation of the Museum's IT strategy in support of the Museum's mission; and to provide a robust and resilient IT infrastructure in line with recognised industry quality standards.
• Develop, implement, and review the Museum's strategy for the provision and delivery of IT services.
• Lead and manage the IT team, ensuring their full effectiveness through guidance, development, training and motivation.
• Manage, review, and develop the Museum's IT infrastructure, systems and procedures to meet the strategic and business needs of the organisation.
• Ensure that the IT systems and infrastructure are robust and resilient. Maintain and test a business continuity strategy.
• Lead and deliver IT projects that support the IT strategy, delivering them within budget and to schedule.
• Support the delivery of the Museum's strategic transformational and other projects, including New Museum, Rebrand, Digital and closure of London Wall to the public, liaising with other departments and consultants as necessary.
• Champion a cloud-first strategy and reducing reliance on premises, building on foundations already laid.
• Manage operations and helpdesk provision efficiently and in line with service standards.
• Responsible for ensuring that effective IT security is in place and monitored ensuring compliance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards (through self-assessment) and GDPR regulations.
You should be an IT professional, educated to degree level or equivalent, with experience of successfully leading an IT function, reviewing its effectiveness, and managing and motivating a team to provide an effective and professional IT service. It is highly desirable that you are working in a similar sector.
• Experience of developing and implementing transformational IT strategy and infrastructure replacement programmes within a complex and changing environment in a cultural organisation.
• Experience of managing cloud services, including Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), and a technical background that will add to the existing departmental knowledge in key areas such as Wi-Fi, firewall management, networking and efficient storage solutions.
• Evidence of successfully delivering IT projects on time and to budget.
• Evidence of implementing and maintaining high standards in information security. (desirable experience should include knowledge of an organisation's legal responsibilities such as GDPR and PCI)
• Experience of developing and running a large, complex, reliable and robust IT infrastructure in line with recognised industry standards, and developing an effective business continuity strategy for IT.
• In depth knowledge of using modern workplace software, such as Office 365, to enhance the IT service and collaboration across an organisation.
• Experience of managing an effective customer-focused IT service supported by Service Level Agreements.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills, and ability to influence across the organisation including Board level.
