Process Risk Manager

Sainsbury's Bank

Edinburgh, Widnes, Holborn, Milton Keynes & Home

Please note you can be based at any of the above locations but travel to Edinburgh will be required on a monthly basis.

In a nutshell

As a Process Risk Manager, you will support management across the Bank's central functions (Finance, Treasury, Credit Risk, Financial Crime and HR) in identifying, managing, and reporting on their key risks and controls. You will ensure that Operational Risks are fully and rigorously identified and assessed via the Process Risk and Control Assessment (PRCA) methodology and managed, and reported, in line with the SBAFS risk management framework and risk appetite.

This role will follow a business partner model providing support and challenge to the division and the senior management within it. You will also be responsible for supporting the wider Business Risk & Controls function in the management of the business response to Risk Events and executing a robust control testing framework whilst supporting the Business Risk Partner as the main interface between these teams and the business divisions.

What you'll be doing
  • Responsible for leading and supporting individual Process Risk and Control Assessments for the division you are aligned to and wider as required.
  • Responsible for inherent and residual risk assessments within individual PRCAs and for the design of key controls for inherent risks outside of appetite.
  • Working directly with the business and key SMEs across the bank and AFS to ensure a fit for purpose and compliant control system is implemented for key processes across the organisation.
  • Proactively identify improvements to the control system across the organisation by researching best practise from across the sector.
  • Responsible for the accurate documentation and capture of PRCA outputs on the ORMS in line with 2nd line risk expectations.
  • Responsible for collaborating with the change management teams across SB and AFS to ensure all significant changes launched to the business have been successfully progressed via PRCA.
  • Ensure treatment plans for process and control fixing activity are created to return residual risk to within appetite and that ExCo members and Senior Management are supported with the timely completion with all associated activity including management through governance.
  • Provide proactive guidance and support to the management and senior management within the division you primarily support.
  • Support the wider Business Risk & Controls team in the management of Risk Events and Control Testing, as required.

What you need to know and show
  • Good level of technical knowledge across all areas of operational risk, retail banking and finance in general.
  • Solid understanding of financial services regulations, conduct risk requirements and the elements of a Risk Management Framework - prioritising within a given framework and managing a small degree of ambiguity.
  • Experience in risk identification and assessment techniques throughout financial services.
  • Good understanding of process and control frameworks and their practical deployment within a financial services company.
  • Demonstrable experience working within a 3 Lines of Defence model at a management level.
  • Good interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate at all levels, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to provide support and guidance to development of controls. Be prepared to challenge processes, people and activities in order to resolve problems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, providing clear and accurate outputs.
