The Role
We are recruiting a Account Specialist, Funder within our Institutional Partnerships team to report into the Institutional Partnerships Development Manager. You will play a crucial role in expanding Frontiers' Institutional Partnerships Program by developing funder target list and engaging with key funding bodies globally
Key Responsibilities:
*
Develop and improve funder target list or ensure this becomes part of integrated target list to the extent needed for funder outreach by developing relationships and targeting key funding bodies
*
Engage with key funding bodies globally (outreach and building relationships with focus on understanding funders' needs, promoting Frontiers, and exploring options for an institutional partnership
*
Develop business rationale for partnerships with funders
*
Monitor funders' OA policies and practices and workflows related to OA publishing
*
Synthesize information from monitoring and engagement activities and report to Institutional Partners Management and other departments
*
Seek opportunities (and advice on how) to better integrate funders into existing models, workflows, and reporting
*
Support Institutional Partnership Development Manager in developing funder aspects of Institutional Partnerships strategy
Knowledge/experience/skills
*
2+ years of sales experience in the academic, library, non-profit or government market
*
Proven track-record on active and hands-on developing of a strong pipeline of opportunities and building strong institutional relationships
*
Experience in working in scholarly publishing or Open Access and/or in a university library, scholarly communications office, research funder, or research support role
*
(Min.) Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required
*
Very good knowledge of all aspects of Open Access publishing in terms of funder policies, business and (institutional/consortium/funder) partnership models, services available, and market trends
*
Some knowledge of and/or experience with the research funder landscape
*
Contacts with relevant research funding bodies are a plus
*
Ability to take ownership, work with minimal supervision, and take initiative to establish this new role within Frontiers' Institutional Partnerships Team's unit
*
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
*
Very good influencing, presentation, and negotiation skills
*
Very good organizational and time-management skills
*
An ability to work effectively with colleagues
*
Strong Microsoft Office skills (esp., Excel)
*
Ability to contribute to pilot agreement and business model development and articulate operational requirements
*
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
