MBDA Missile Systems - Deliver for a more secure tomorrow
FC/ASW Systems Design Engineer - Functional Strands
Bristol or Stevenage
Future Cruise/Anti-Ship Weapon (FC/ASW) is MBDA's flagship future product. We are looking for someone to join the Functional Strand Development team on this complex and interesting project. FC/ASW has just entered the Assessment Phase, a 3-year period during which the concept is to be refined to a point at which it can be progressed to design and manufacture.
A critical part of work throughout the Assessment Phase is production of the Missile Dynamic Reference Model (DRM), an end to end representation of the Missile System used to assess performance against the Customer vignettes, conduct Systems Design trade studies and produce the associated Algorithms and Software for on-board the Missile.
A Model Based Engineering approach is being taken on FC/ASW in order to meet demanding Customer timescales and reduce the amount of hardware trials required throughout the project lifecycle. A high fidelity and validated model representation of the Missile System is essential for achieving this, demonstrating the design of the Missile System and its suitability to the Customer needs.
The key role of the Functional Strands Team is to co-ordinate the various stakeholders of the DRM to ensure efficient development and delivery of the model for its various uses.
A Systems Design Engineer in the Functional Strands Team will:
Work with Subject Matter Experts in Aerodynamics, Mechanical, Propulsion, Lethality, Guidance, Control & Navigation, Image Processing, Software, Seekers (and others) to understand how each of these contribute to the DRM
Support development of the DRM and subsystem model requirements
Ensure delivery of the DRM with subsystem models to key stakeholders (System Performance, GCN, etc.) in line with the model development plan
Support definition of the Common Algorithm Software Architecture (CASA)
Define the WCU Software and Missile Security Solution requirements
Support the development of Software plan
Work closely with the Functional Domain leads to understand the development needs for the model used for Systems Design trade studies
Support development of the Mission Manager algorithms
Assess model development and V&V activities and present to key project stakeholders
What we are looking for
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with customers, technical specialists, and senior management.
Experience of model development or using mathematical models to assess system behaviour
Experience with Missile Software development
Experience of capturing and presenting technical requirements
What's in it for you?
Tangibly shape the design of the next generation deep strike and anti-ship capability developed by MBDA
Opportunity to develop a network, internal and external to MBDA. FC/ASW is an international project and offers the potential to work internationally with French colleagues and customers
Practical experience of Agile principles and supporting frameworks on a Project that is driving the new ways of working in the business
To work in a motivated and collaborative environment
Opportunity to develop technical skills across all parts of the missile system as well as experience in mathematical modelling.
Benefits
Flexible working *opportunities for career progression *paid overtime (subject to level) *great bonus scheme *comprehensive pension scheme *annual salary review *fantastic working environment and site facilities *social, charitable and sporting activities!
