Orbis are working with a reputable client to hire a Software Developer with strong SQL programming skills to join their growing Asset Data Team. This team facilitate the implementation and maintenance of robust technical data solutions and integration of core platforms.

They are a UK based insurance company, specialising in securing the liabilities of Defined Benefit pension schemes. They provide superior client service for policyholders, trustees and pension fund sponsors.

They are looking for experienced developers, working alongside the Development Manager and Senior Software Developers to implement solutions in accordance with specified standards and priorities.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, document, deploy and test data solutions in line with business requirements across non prod and production environments. Implement enhancements, reduce technical debt and changes advised by the Development Manager.
  • Use analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose technical and data issues when incidents occur or as highlighted by users.
  • Perform quality assurance checks with code-review, testing, brainstorm and design change exercises.
  • Collaborate with the application support team for solution hand-over to production.
  • Improve upon processes, controls and procedures that add value to the team and company with respect to data security, robustness, best-practice, reliability, performance, scalability, company strategy and team efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years of commercial experience
  • Strong SQL programming skills on database technologies such as Oracle, MS SQL Server
  • Experience of producing ETL using tools such as ADF, IBM DataManager, MS SSIS, IBM DataStage
  • Experience of producing reports using tools such as Cognos BI, MS Power BI
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse methodologies and practices and reading logical and physical data modelling diagrams
  • Experience of scripting languages such as bash or other structured programming languages such as c++, c# or java.
  • Experience of writing and maintaining microservices.
