Trainee Refrigeration Engineer

About the Client:
  • A leading Refrigeration company who are based throughout Southern England. Customers include Bidvest Foodservice, Brakes, Waitrose, Ferryspeed and Sainsbury?s along with numerous frozen and chilled food distributors. They are environmentally friendly electric refrigeration systems manufactured by FRIGOBLOCK, who are the market leaders in Europe for low emission transport refrigeration systems. They are also the UK distributors for Euroscan temperature recording systems. Demand for clean refrigeration equipment is creating a demand for additional resource.

About the Role:
  • The successful candidate would be based in Hampshire and work alongside our existing team of skilled refrigeration engineers. They would initially assist other engineers and work under their direct supervision, however as they develop the required skills and knowledge they would start to work more independently. The trainee would be provided with an equipped service van and be expected to travel around the south eastern area and undertaking servicing and repairs on transport refrigeration equipment. This is a development role, and the successful candidate would be expected to progress and take on the role of a refrigeration engineer, diagnosing faults and undertaking emergency callout. They will require space to park a 3.5 tonne van at their place of residence. The equipment is now becoming more software driven, and so they will be expected to be able to use a laptop to programme and diagnose faults on equipment.
  • Undertake maintenance and repair of transport refrigeration equipment.

About the Candidate:
  • English, Mathematics Communication studies.
  • Engineering or mechanical qualification.
  • Driving Licence for 3.5 tonne van.
  • Good legible handwriting, ability to complete forms and documents.
  • Interpersonal skills, ability to liaise effectively with the service controllers and customers.
  • Mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical terminology.
  • Driving and navigational skills.

Points of Appeal:
  • Salary is competence dependent - £22k to £35k per annum
  • Work 08:30 to 17:00 with a 30-minute break for lunch
  • Overalls and protective clothing are provided
  • The opportunity exists to work additional hours for which appropriate payments are made.
  • As skill levels increase there will be a requirement to provide evening cover on designated customer sites
  • A company vehicle is provided for work use only.
  • All specialist equipment is provided; the engineer is responsible for providing their own general hand tools.
