Embedded Software Engineer

Automotive

Rate: £50-55/hr (Outside IR35)

Duration: 6-12 months

Location: Cardiff

Hybrid Working

We currently require an experienced, multi-talented and enthusiastic embedded software engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will ideally have experience working within the automotive industry and have knowledge of automotive communication protocols in particular CAN, CAN-FD and LIN. Experience using Vector CANalyzer/CANoe or similar tools is preferred.

Joining a small team of engineers, you will collaborate to support and refine existing product code and develop structured code for new systems. As an experienced embedded engineer, you will also be highly proficient at developing well documented embedded software in C/C++. You will be Proficient working with ARM microcontrollers and real-time operating systems (RTOS) and have an appreciation for vehicle electronics as you will regularly be involved in testing and debugging new solutions on vehicles.

Finally, you should have an analytical mind and be someone who truly enjoys solving complicated problems using both logical and creative approaches. You should have excellent organisational skills and be able to plan different aspects of a project whilst always keeping the final goal in mind. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work productively within a team whilst also being able to complete tasks autonomously.

Due to the hands on (vehicle) nature of our work, this is a workshop based role on the whole.

Essential skills, qualifications and experience needed:

A good degree (2:1 or first-class) in software Engineering or another relevant subject
Five+ years' experience in a similar environment using embedded C/C++
Strong software debugging skills
Understanding of electronics schematic drawings & automotive electrical wiring
Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN)
Experience developing on ARM Cortex Microcontrollers such as STM32 & Nordic nRF51822 series
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
