Oceanova is rapidly expanding, and we are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our central Finance Team to support each different brand on its own journey.This is an excellent opportunity to work across a range of companies, products and brands, each with its own message, audience and purpose. However, as part of the Oceanova Group, the businesses are united in their ultimate goal of improving education - there is a genuine sense of fulfilment in the work that we do.The Finance team has a Finance Director who is based in London but the remainder of the 6-person strong team, led by the Finance Manager, are based in Blackpool. The team is a mix of ages, qualifications and experience but with the shared goal of working together as a team which is an important element of our culture.

This is a typical financial role but there is variety with each brand having a unique approach and an expanding portfolio of services. There is a constantly changing landscape of education and indeed our changing products in response to this, and it is important that you can adapt quickly to any changes so that the Finance team can support the rest of the business.Ideally you should be IT literate wanting to pursue a qualification such as AAT and have a proven track record in an office-based customer service role though the salary range has been set to reflect different levels of experience.Day-to-day, you will report to the Management Accountant and support the rest of the team.Dependant on experience, key responsibilities include some of the following activities:
  • Provide day-to-day support for Finance Team
  • Sales Ledger
  • Raising invoices and draft credit notes for authorisation.
  • Support timesheet process for payroll
  • Accounts Payable / Purchase Ledger
  • Ensuring accurate posting of purchase invoices for authorisation, value, VAT codes and nominals.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and reports.
  • Processing monthly payment runs
  • Processing Expenses
  • Posting journals
  • Any other ad hoc tasks/projects

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Familiar and comfortable working as part of a larger team.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in a similar office based, customer service role, looking to obtain an appropriate accounting qualification such as AAT and experience of Excel would be beneficial.
