The Ancient Tree Forum (ATF) is seeking trustees to embrace the exciting opportunity to strengthen the future of a leading authority on the conservation of ancient and other veteran trees.
The ATF has pioneered the conservation of ancient trees for over 20 years, and is the only UK organisation focussing on all species of ancient trees. We believe there should be no further avoidable loss of these trees through development pressure, agricultural clearance, mismanagement or poor practice.
This is a pivotal time for ATF. Our first CEO, Laura Alcock-Ferguson, who has been in post since October 2019 and the trustee board have overseen significant change in the running of the organisation, initiated a strategic review and secured new funding. It is embedded in our strategy that ATF will continue to harness the power of volunteers, who are often pre-eminent in their fields of expertise. Volunteers will continue to work with our staff and close stakeholders, remaining at the heart of our work.
We are looking for:
A “tree” trustee with skills, knowledge, and experience in ancient and other veteran trees – desirable, with skills in related or wider environmental knowledge as essential. Please see the longer list in the candidate pack.
A trustee with understanding and experience of the charity sector/civil society’s operating and environment and at least one other desirable skill/experience from the following:
Diversity
We have completed a trustee diversity audit and we have gaps in the diversity of our board. We particularly welcome and value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination. We encourage and welcome applications from suitably skilled candidates from all backgrounds and particularly from people of colour.
What difference will you make?
You will be joining and leading an active and positive board: ATF has a strong commitment and contribution from its trustees, and staff work closely to support governance. We are a small team (staff, trustees, and volunteers) with a professional yet personal approach to our work. ATF will offer full support to its new trustees in the form of induction and other development, reflection and learning opportunities.
Time commitment and terms
All trustee roles are unremunerated, although out of pocket expenses will be paid.
The time commitment for a Trustee is 3-4 days per month.
Please apply via the Reach platform.
