Space Cluster Development Manager
Salary: £50,702 to £56,336 per annum (dependent on skills and experience).Contract Type: Open EndedLocation: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire. Hybrid working options also available.

Harwell Campus is developing a number of clusters in high growth sectors, encouraging multidisciplinary collaboration between clusters across the campus and beyond to spark innovation and fresh thinking. We are seeking a Harwell Space Cluster Manager to take this thriving cluster into its next phase of growth as a key player in the delivery of the UK National Space Strategy.

Within this role, you will be ensuring that companies are benefiting from being part of the Cluster and that through the cluster they connect to the rest of the UK Space sector and to collaboration opportunities across the wider cluster network nationally and internationally. This will involve keeping the cluster organisations updated on any new developments through regular communication and events, supporting the growth of the companies within the Cluster and acting as a key contact for these organisations.

Another key element of this role will be to work closely and collaboratively with our key stakeholders, including BEIS, UK Space Agency, MOD, Cabinet Office and UK space, to maintain and refresh the strategy for the Harwell Space Cluster and support the development of the Space Gateway at Harwell. The Space Cluster Manager will operate in a transparent way to ensure alignment of common activities so that these are leveraged to benefit the Harwell Space Cluster and the whole UK space sector.

We are looking for someone who can work collaboratively with key-players in the space sector as well as with other sectors for the benefit of the Space community and others.

About you

A core part of this role is collaboration with the key partners within and outside the cluster, as well as working closely and effectively with the Campus and Cluster team, Business Innovation Department colleagues, wider STFC and UKRI and the Harwell Joint Venture Partnership. You will therefore need to be an excellent communicator and have great networking skills. You will also need strong presentational skills with the ability to deliver complex messages to a wide range of audiences.

You will need to have demonstrated understanding of the Space sector and space-enabled services and applications in order to fully support and manage the development of the Harwell Space Cluster. We are looking for someone with confidence and who is self-sufficient and engaging, ready to continue to drive the growth of this exciting cluster and who can operate at all levels across the public and private sectors.

Role Background

The UK Space Agency has released its latest assessment of the Size & Health of the UK space sector. Despite the global impacts of the pandemic, over 3,000 UK space jobs were created in one year. The growth of Harwell Space Cluster corroborates this, as at end of 2021 there were 100 space related organisations, which collectively employ 1,400 people (up from 1,100 at the end of 2019).
