Student Retention and Success Manager

Location: Greenwich

Salary: £21.48

Contract type: Permanent

Purpose of the role:

The Student Retention and Success Manager works within the Student Engagement Team in the Student and Academic Services Directorate and in partnership with Faculties, university Students' Union (GU), and wider Professional Services to provide support and analysis to enhance student engagement and improve student retention.

The role will manage the Retention and Success Officers and the Attendance Monitoring Coordinator and support a greater joined up approach to the University's attendance and engagement monitoring arrangements, reflecting on what can be enhanced and developed to support wider student engagement, working in collaboration with key stakeholders and students.

This role will play a key part in supporting the University's attendance and engagement monitoring system to ensure students who are not engaging are identified early and proactive interventions can be made. The role holder will work closely with the Student Engagement Officers to provide relevant data to inform initiatives led by the Student Engagement Team.


Team Specific:

To provide line-management for the Retention and Success Officers and the Attendance Monitoring Coordinator.
To deliver all aspects of line management for the above, including recruitment, induction, appraisals, performance management, target setting, one-to-one meetings, team meetings and staff development initiatives.
To work with the Student Engagement Manager to develop meaningful KPIs that compliment those set by the institution

To regularly review and provide reports on students' activities across Faculties (at least weekly) via the data on relevant systems, including the Attendance Monitoring System and student interaction with the Virtual Learning Environment to identify student groups at risk of disengagement as indicated by a reduction in activity levels.
To monitor and provide reports on retention trends across the Faculties (including withdrawals, interrupts and fails) in relation to protected characteristics, demographic characteristics, or other variables.
To provide regular reports on the above to the Student Engagement Manager to support attendance monitoring requirements and the planning of interventions for students at risk.
To work closely with the Student Visa Compliance Team on matters related to attendance monitoring.
To manage, develop and motivate a team in the provision of attendance monitoring and retention.
To manage the implementation of the Attendance and Engagement Policy and provide necessary guidance and briefings to staff and students.
To be proficient in the use of available data sources to generate necessary reports required for the role.
To be able to provide data and narratives to support the development of engagement activities and interventions aimed at improving retention.
To keep up to date with sector trends, best practice, research, and activities aimed at improving student engagement and retention.
To ensure that students are at the heart of what we deliver and to be able to obtain meaningful feedback from students in the development and delivery of interventions.
