The Company:
  • The company is a leading manufacturer of sustainable packaging including plastic and rigid paperboard, offering packaging solutions to the industrial, consumer and healthcare markets. Who are looking for a Shift Electrician to join their team paying an Hourly rate which is £27.25 based on 33.6 hours per week but working annualised hours shift pattern.

Job Title:
  • Shift Electrician

Job role of the Shift Electrician:
  • An experienced shift electrician working alongside a small production team of 7 covering a 5-shift roster 24/7. Working in an extremely busy manufacturing environment you will provide electrical expertise to ensure the assets are utilized effectively in order to safely minimize downtime while optimizing costs.
  • You will ensure electrical maintenance duties are carried out across the site. Duties can include attending breakdowns, carrying out overhauls on machinery, completing remedial correctives and improving the plants availability and reliability by implementing engineering best practice.

Key Responsibilities of the Shift Electrician:

Safety Responsibilities
  • Actively support the company's goal to 'create a zero-injury environment'.
  • Discharge responsibilities as set out in responsibilities section of company Board Mill's Safety Policy.
  • In addition to the requirements of the policy particular focus should be paid to:
  • Report close calls
  • Conducting and recording SUSA discussions at the current target level per month
  • Conduct risk assessments as necessary in order to fulfil the requirements of all H&S legislation.
  • Ensure all relevant risk assessments are reviewed and signed off prior to task commencement.
  • Participate in the development of the risk assessment process
  • Follow all company rules, policy and procedures
  • Lead by example

Operational responsibilities
  • Influencer / Reviewer:
  • Electrical downtime - in conjunction with the electrical supervisor
  • Electrical costs - in conjunction with the electrical supervisor
  • Stock level accuracy - in conjunction with the MRO Coordinator

Engineering departments and personnel
  • Direct reports:
  • None
  • Indirect reports:
  • Contractors who may include but not limited to electrical, instrumentation and building services engineers.

Purchasing
  • Support the MRO coordinator in the procurement of parts and materials with best cost in use considered and balanced against purchase price

Day to day activities

These will include but not be limited to:
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair system and equipment faults
  • Provide troubleshooting expertise during equipment failure
  • Ensure daily priorities are addressed in order that all production facilities are functional.
  • Work to current safety legislation and comply with safety requirements
  • Loading and unloading of engineering materials using a counterbalance truck
  • Willing to work extended hours in a breakdown situation and scheduled shutdowns
  • Configuration of automation, electrical and instrument control systems
  • Ensure breakdown activity is minimised by personal involvement
  • CMMS - support the supervisor in the implementation and development of this system
  • Contribute to and implement planned maintenance schedules
  • Organise, source and recommend spares for purchase and repair
  • Fulfil the duties of Radiation Protection Supervisor (One of 3 RPS)
  • Be available for out of hours call out and provide out of hours telephone support
  • Supervise contractor resources where required
  • Work closely with other departments to identify loss and solutions
  • Participate in the company Performance System (SPS)
  • Operate continuous improvement methods to eliminate persistent problems
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis activity - 5 whys, DMAIC etc.
  • Design, install and commission new equipment
  • Provide electrical & control support to the site project department
  • Investigate, design, write and implement projects that will improve productivity or process reliability
  • Implement best practice with regards to automation and control reliability and new processes
  • Participate in training for completed projects
  • Manage associated documentation and software to ensure it is up to date and available at all times
  • Familiarise yourself and others with the current standards and technological advances
  • Operate the sites energy plant

Qualifications & Knowledge:

Required:
  • Timed served electrician. You must hold electrical qualification (i.e., City & Guilds / BTEC / NVQ Level 3).
  • Excellent Health & Safety knowledge and application.
  • Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word

Desirable:
  • Counterbalance Licence

Skills & Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working with a CMMS system
  • Experience of working alone and on shifts
  • Team working and flexibility with an open attitude
  • Capable of effective prioritisation of tasks and personal time management
  • Able to work unsupervised and prioritise their own time and activities
  • Have strong analytical skills supporting fast and effective problem solving
  • Flexible to work overtime as and when required.
  • Able to read engineering drawings
  • No issue with working at height
  • No issues with working in confined spaces

Salary:
  • Hourly rate is £27.25 based on 33.6 hours per week but working annualised hours shift pattern
