Job Introduction

BBC iPlayer is a high priority and rapidly growing digital service that is strategically important for the future of the BBC. It sits in a dynamic and fiercely competitive market for television streaming and is increasingly the way that modern audiences consume BBC television programmes. It provides additional choice over what to watch and when to watch and it offers better functionality and control over the viewing experience than is possible on traditional broadcast platforms. The strategic aim is to provide a great range of the most creatively ambitious programmes that are relevant to audiences across the UK and to help audiences discover the right programmes for them whoever they are, whatever their mood and whenever they want to watch

Role Responsibility

The BBC iPlayer Service Executive is a newly created role reporting to the Director, iPlayer and Channels. They will play animportant part in developing and implementing the vision for the service working with many senior stakeholders across the organisation and promoting a focus on the acquisition and retention of viewers.

Within BBC Content they will be part of the iPlayer and Channels team, working closely with the Head of Programming for iPlayer and the iPlayer editorial, planning and business teams as well the Portfolio Editor, Head of Channel Management, Genre Commissioning teams and Acquisition teams. Across the wider organisation they will be a key member of the iPlayer cross-divisional senior leadership team working especially closely with the iPlayer Head of Product and the iPlayer Head of Marketing.

They will play an important part in communicating the iPlayer vision and priorities to other divisions across the BBC and in making sure that operational working groups are functioning effectively, helping the service to be successful against the goals which are set. Working with others they will help to assess the iPlayer editorial plans, to identify potential gaps for different audience groups and to help refine future requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

This role requires someone who is able to distil and articulate key insights from audience research and data science that will help others to understand what's needed to progress the service. The role will work across editorial, strategic and operational areas helping to bring the right people together to solve problems and to improve operational ways of working so we are looking for a great communicator and relationship builder.

You will need to be flexible and willing to pick up ad hoc work from the Director of iPlayer and Channels as required, adapting for short term needs whilst helping to maintain a constant focus on longer term goals for themselves and the wider teams.
