Financial Systems Data Analyst - Fin-tech

Role Purpose:

Supporting the provision of MI, including the design, development and execution of relevant systems and processes.

The analysis and interpretation of data is vital to this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Understanding the structure and flow of data across the revenue generating products of the bank
  • Developing and managing data models used for reporting on product and client data
  • Using statistical methodologies to answer business questions and highlight opportunities

This role sits within what is traditionally known as Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A). However, the team is being transformed to have an increased focus on Data Analytics.

It is a new role in a team of three. Your line manager is passionate about Data Analytics and provides input to all revenue-generating teams across the bank. The team will be headed by a Senior Vice President reporting directly to the CFO.

The long-term aim of this role is to help build and consolidate the data analytics function within the bank.

Role Responsibilities:

Systems enhancement and development
  • Managing and further developing the data models used for reporting, including financial and product/client data, ensuring that they remain complete, up-to-date and free from error.
  • Maintaining and updating the relevant hierarchies (clients, currencies, accounts, etc) used for MI reporting, based on input from the commercial and finance teams.
  • Understanding the structure and flow of data, to make improvements or to fix issues as required. This includes connectivity to ODBC data sources, queries in SQL and PowerQuery/ PowerBI , ETL templates and processes in VENA, etc.
  • Support the ongoing development of the MI systems.

Analysis and Business Partnering
  • Analysing the available data using statistical methodology to answer business questions and to highlight opportunities.
  • Supporting the development of PowerBI visualisations and dashboards, which will enhance access and understanding of the available data.
  • Working with Senior Management to develop consistent and accurate reporting.
  • Ongoing ad-hoc commercial and analytical support.

Management Reporting
  • Provision and development of daily and weekly management information to assist in measuring business performance against key metrics.
  • Support the timely reporting on business performance through monthly reporting packs including Flash, Cost Reporting and Board Reporting.

Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Providing support as required in the budgeting and forecasting cycles, including analysing, extracting, uploading and maintaining the relevant data in VENA.


Financial Systems Data Analyst - Fin-tech

Require Skills/Experience:
  • Working with data: extracting, analysing, transforming, and uploading data
  • Producing reports and visualisations
  • Exceptional Analytical and Excel skills
  • Reading and Writing SQL queries
  • Experience in programming would be ideal, although not required
  • Experience with VENA (or similar OLAP system, such as IBM Cognos) would be ideal
  • Experience working with financial and accounting data in multiple currencies would be ideal, although not required
  • High attention to detail and ability to review work quickly and accurately.
  • Pro-active, seeking to drive processes forward and adding value
  • A Self-motivated individual / results driven who will pursue a task to its conclusion without the need for constant supervision
  • Appetite for developing new skills and capabilities

Job Offer

A basic salary of up to £70,000 (dependent upon experience)
