Our Private Client Tax Service Line works with high-net-worth individuals, non-UK domiciled individuals, trustees, partnerships and sole traders in managing their tax affairs both on the compliance side and in relation to additional advisory matters. More specifically, these range from multinational and growth-focused entrepreneurs to fashion icons and premier league footballers. We work closely with colleagues from across the firm to provide a joined-up service to our clients.

About the role

This is a brilliant client-focused role. You will provide timely and accurate delivery of tax services on behalf of a portfolio of personal tax clients, focusing on high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, non-UK domiciled individuals and some UK and offshore trusts. You will have the opportunity to build and maintain effective relationships with clients with the intention of making you an indispensable resource for their tax compliance affairs. An additional responsibility for this role is to maintain the Trust Registration Service (TRS) in relation to the trusts within the team's portfolio.

You will also assist with the supervision of Tax Trainees, reviewing work and providing training where required, as well as supporting Managers, Directors and Partners in the London region private client tax team to deliver a range of tax advisory projects.

The suitable candidate will be expected to deliver first class client service at all times producing work in an efficient and effective manner and making a significant contribution towards the success of the team, with the opportunity to progress.
  • Acting as day-to-day point of contact for the client, ensuring the principles of excellent client service at all times.
  • Liaising confidently with clients and third parties over email, telephone, letter and in meetings, with the ability to explain complex tax matters.
  • Ensuring each assignment is undertaken in accordance with the pre-assignment instructions, and to carrying out complex aspects of the assignment efficiently, thoroughly and in accordance with the firm's procedures and quality service standards.
  • Providing a full personal tax compliance and advisory service as required by the circumstances of each client.
  • Providing adequate briefing, supervision and training for junior staff including review of their personal tax return preparation work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Delivering feedback to junior staff on a regular basis and as part of the appraisal process.
  • Involvement in one off tax advisory projects with support provided by senior members of the private client tax team.
  • Maintaining an awareness of the firm's specialist services and publications as well as an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and to fulfil professional bodies' CPD requirements.
  • Where necessary, working with the firm's international network in relation to clients' non-UK tax matters, and ensuring UK and international advice is co-ordinated.
  • Maintaining the TRS register for the trusts/estates in the team's portfolio.
  • Attending business development activities as required and growing your own network, both internally and externally.
  • Researching and assisting senior members of the team with proposals for new work.
  • Reviewing and controlling work in progress balances and being responsible for raising fee notes on a timely basis.
  • Attending internal staff meetings and training as required.
  • Carrying out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the role and its grading, as requested by the line manager, Head of Department or any Director/Partner.
About the ideal candidate
  • ATT qualified.
  • Recent experience gained in a private client / personal tax environment, preferably in practice.
  • Proven experience in client handling and managing a busy portfolio.
  • Well-presented and articulate, with experience of a high level of interaction with clients of significant wealth and a high standard of client service.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent communication, both written and verbal.
