*External Communications Manager - Swindon*
The National Trust's public profile has arguably never been higher. We have more members than at any time during our entire history, along with record numbers of visitors. As our profile has risen, so too has the level of interest and scrutiny in what we do and why we do it.
We're rarely out of the headlines and as one of the biggest and best-known charities in the country, almost everyone will have a view on some aspect of what the Trust does. That's why we need a communications expert to help us communicate our story in a clear, consistent and compelling way to a broad range of audiences.
Please note: This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
*What it's like to work here*
Creative, fast paced and highly professional the External Communications Team promotes the work of the charity as well as protects its reputation.
No two days are the same and you will work closely with colleagues within the Communications and Marketing Directorate to amplify the work of the Trust to the outside world.
Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree remote working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will involve travel to our regional hubs or properties.
*What you'll be doing*
You'll be responsible for supporting the Land, Outdoors and Nature directorate of the National Trust to communicate its external narrative. You'll invest time in becoming a subject matter expert in the areas you support, understanding how their work supports the National Trust strategy and how this directly impacts audiences, to be able to create a clear communication plan of what the Trust is doing and why.
You'll establish effective relationships with your key stakeholders both internally and externally. Your stakeholders will range from executive team members, directors, internal teams and external media contacts where you'll provide specialist support, guidance, co-ordination and advise on media handling.
You will lead on strategic communications campaigns and advise on reputational risk and opportunity.

* In-depth knowledge of how local and national media operate across all platforms
* Excellent news judgement
* Excellent writing skills
* Work well under pressure, manage multi level priorities and work to short deadlines
* Experience of working in a fast paced office with effective media rebuttal and crisis management skills
* Proven track record of selling in stories
