Events and Communications Officer - £19.32ph Plus Hol Pay - Central London

Hybrid Role - Two Days Campus Based, Three Days Remote.

START: 28/03/2022

END: 27/06/2022 Initially

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

You will be designing and delivering a comprehensive range of high-profile and high-impact communications and digital media, including social media, digital advertising, website development and maintenance, editing newsletters and producing the department's weekly podcast to raise the profile of the academics and the university department.

You will organise and develop departmental events, support student engagement events and activities, promotion and media relations, as well as building relations with the speakers, external organisations and strengthening the public engagement of the Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Develop and implement departmental strategy for internal and external communications with the aim of increasing attendance, media coverage and creating strategic partnerships with external organisations', stakeholders and media.

-Responsible for the day-to-day operation, development and maintenance of the Department's website and content.

-Manage, edit and produce the weekly podcast by arranging recording times, managing the platforms, producing the recording, and promoting the podcast with appropriate content.

-Curate and develop content that can be deployed across a variety of channels, including: digital advertising, emails, webpages and multiple social media channels.

-Act as Secretary to the Department's Committee by preparing agendas and taking minutes.

-Commission content for, write, and organise the monthly internal newsletter and the termly student newsletter.

-Develop and maintain the Departmental mailing lists database.

-Manage marketing material for events, designing the promotional material in line with university's brand guidelines.

-Working with Student Recruitment and Marketing Manager to coordinate fundraising and alumni events and activities.

-Assist in the drafting, preparation and proof reading of documentation or correspondence for internal or external circulation.

-Manage and coordinate all events (internal and external) including the weekly conferences, workshops, and other events for staff, students or the general public.

-Coordinate all the logistics and budgeting for events, such as accommodation, expenses, room bookings.

-Prepare and manage the yearly schedule for all departmental committee meetings.

-Manage publicity and promotions for departmental events and initiatives.

-Be the main contact for the student societies and chair the recruitment panels for the appointments of their committees; and manage the activities related to events and publications organised by the society.

-Support student engagement activities by working with the Deputy Director on a series of events and manage the events budget.

-To contribute to welcome social events in induction week and deliver presentations and training for incoming students.

-Line manage the Reception Administrator and review the administrator's duties.

-Participate in, organise and minute departmental meetings.

Person specification

-Excellent communications, marketing and media skills (including designing and building websites, establishing and maintaining social media profiles, and writing newsletters).

-Experience in high-profile events and conference management.

-Experience of working with cross-channel media communications, offline and digital.

-Experience of digital marketing and social media platforms.

-Experience of producing information for websites and other publications.

-Experience with creating and editing podcasts and/ or videos.

-Experience of giving presentations to a variety of audiences.

-Good understanding of the higher education landscape, policies, practices, and procedures.

-Experience of supervising and managing staff members.

-Outstanding administrative and organisational skills including excellent planning and time management skills.

-Ability to work independently and with a team using a collaborative approach.
