The Company
Our client is a start-up joint special purpose vehicle (SPV) business, specifically created to design, construct and deliver a new fleet of Small Modular Reactors power plants that will be a critical and strategic player in the race to Net Zero carbon emissions globally. Spun out of Rolls-Royce with its pedigree in engineering excellence but also attracting world class inward investment this is an exciting new business with an optimistic opportunity to be a global player in the coming years.
The Post
The Reactor Plant Analysts will work alongside systems design team to understand the technical nature of the reactor plant design and producing thermal hydraulic analyses which characterises system performance, informs intelligent design decisions and ultimately verifies the performance and safety of the final design.
Successful candidates will develop analysis methods using industry standard codes (including RELAP, COBRA-TF, MAAP and GOTHIC), create and verify representative models of the reactor plant design, assess transient performance of the reactor duty and safety systems, and develop code validation cases against real world test data.
There are a number of opportunities within the SMR programme for both experienced leads and developing thermal hydraulic analysts to work across a range of different thermal hydraulic analysis areas including:

There are a number of opportunities within the SMR programme for both experienced leads and developing thermal hydraulic analysts to work across a range of different thermal hydraulic analysis areas including:
- Reactor plant transient and safety analysis using RELAP;
- Core thermal analysis using COBRA-TF;
- Containment thermal analysis, model build and method development using GOTHIC;
- Severe Accident Analysis using MAAP;
- Development of code validation statement, including the generation of PIRT and TAMs.
- Work with the plant design engineers to understand the technical nature of the reactor plant as well as the evidence required to inform technical decision making verify plant performance.
- Apply technical expertise to develop representative plant models, solve thermal-hydraulic problems and generate valid plant performance data.
- Develop and manage own technical work plans. Prioritise activities to ensure on time delivery, cost and quality for all project deliverables.
- Define and manage requirement traceability from design through to analysis, models and method validation.
- Ensure appropriate quality is achieved in all aspects of the analysis programme.
- Act as technical representative for assigned area of technical expertise. Present and inform technical or project reviews when required.
- Understand and articulate technical and programme risks, managing them as appropriate with the Reactor Plant Performance Team Leads.
- Experience analysts will be expected to provide technical supervision and coaching to other thermal hydraulic analysts working across the project, share technical knowledge and steer the direction of technical analysis to meet the needs of the programme.
- Work with due regard to Health, Safety and Environment. Comply with corporate, business and legislative requirements. Champion company values, including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
