Department Overview:

Sustainable Fitch (SF) provides insights, tools and data that have been designed and built entirely and exclusively to help bring clarity to the ESG financial community. Our focus is, and will always be, on providing transparent, objective and substantive data that enables confidence in decision-making. The group currently has 4 primary divisions, ESG Research, ESG Ratings, ESG Analytics (Credit Ratings), and ESG Product Development.

Job Description:

This role reports to the Head of Product Development in London and is responsible for integrating different elements of Fitch's ESG data and analytical tools into workflows across the Sustainable Fitch divisions, as well as refining existing tools and helping to develop new tools to organise and analyse ESG data being produced by Fitch's analysts. The role is also a central liaison between the teams in Sustainable Fitch and key stakeholders in the Data teams in Fitch Ratings and Fitch Solutions.

Specifically, the individual will need to:
  • Assist in guiding and steering the data strategy for ESG within Fitch liaising with IT, analytical, data stewards and other operational service providers to ensure that new tools are developed successfully and a process for their maintenance is implemented.
  • Contribute to Product Development's NLP and other AI projects.
  • Use programming skills and tools to analyse both internal and external ESG data/AI and work with the analytical teams and the ESG Research team globally to assist in producing insightful and timely research.
  • Represent the SF team in internal operations meetings regarding collation and curation of ESG data from the analytical groups, and development of ESG specific databases.
  • Recommend improvements to processing of ESG data information and governance and take ownership of ensuring that the development of new tools and processes is taken through to a successful conclusion.
  • Identify and utilise the ESG data being produced, and in providing insights into how external datasets might be used to enhance the Fitch ESG data.
  • Report generation using ESG data sets on a timely basis with ad hoc data requests.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills & Experience:
  • Relevant experience in a data / data science / AI / IT programming role.
  • Technical proficiency in programming languages particularly Python, Java, VBA; experience in NLP/ML and interest for AI for climate risk would be an advantage.
  • Experience in building data pipelines with API and datafeeds.
  • Proficiency in utilising SQL database, familiarity in MongoDB, Pycharm/Jupyter Lab.
  • Exposure with Scrums defining stories and working with the team.
  • Exposure with product development working with datasets and building a product for end clients and understanding of the data extraction path to data delivery for end clients. Production experience would be an advantage.
  • Exposure to ESG research and analysis would be a significant advantage.
  • Appreciation of data governance / understanding of commercial opportunities with data using Datafeeds and API would be an advantage
  • Strong team player with excellent inter-personal skills, combined with an ability to integrate quickly into an established team and to deal with colleagues and external parties across the analytical groups globally.
  • Self-starter. The candidate will be expected to show initiative as well as manage and prioritise his/her and team members' time
  • Fluent English essential, other languages considered a bonus, both verbal and written skills

The position is based in Fitch's London offices in Canary Wharf. Fitch operates on a hybrid working model; a combination of in-office and flexible/remote work. This includes three days in office, of which two are 'anchor days' and the third day flexible based on employee preference. Employees may choose to work remotely two days per week.
