BAE Systems Applied Intelligence Laboratories is seeking to recruit individuals to join our rapidly expanding Data and Information Processing Capability . We are looking for candidates who are adaptable, enthusiastic and highly motivated. Ideally you will have experience of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning applied to the Image Analysis. You will ideally have experience of leading teams developing image analytics. We offer you the opportunity to lead projects covering a wide range of image analysis requirements for customers across the defence, security and commercial sectors. You will also have the opportunity to maintain your strong links with Academic partners.

You will be leading a team of 8 dedicated researchers working at the cutting edge of ML research in the image analysis domain and should have some experience of management of early career researchers. You will work on a mixture of customer funded projects and internal BAE programmes.

Candidates will have the opportunity to mix technical challenges and customer-facing activities in an entrepreneurial culture. In addition to a solid academic background and excellent written and verbal communication skills, we are interested in candidates with experience working with Image and Video data for Defence and Security applications.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Lead novel research in given topic areas, often in partnership with leading UK Universities.
  • Oversee development of prototypes and proof of concept demonstrators
  • Manage a team of machine learning researchers.
  • Effectively present results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Several years of experience in the application of Machine Learning to Image analysis problems in addition to a PhD. in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Appetite for working in a secure environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Candidates must already have a right to work in the UK.
  • Experience in software development in any of the following: Python, Java
  • Experience with ML frameworks: TensorFlow, Pytorch, scikit-learn is desirable
  • Experience with edge processing devices such as Jetsons, FPGAs etc is desirable
