This Engineering leadership positions responsible for effective leadership, administration, and professional direction of the site's engineering team.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Function:
  • The individual manages a team of engineers providing leadership and professional direction for the site's engineering resources (Mechanical, Design, Test, Sustaining, Electrical/Electronic, Configuration Management and TCO).
  • This individual will be responsible for short and long term product development, qualification, analysis/testing, sustaining, obsolescence.
  • Action planning for improved product reliability,
  • Support operations with product assurance, and opportunities to reduce product cost.
  • Primary accountabilities are personnel leadership,
  • Organization development of the team, critical skill set analysis and team growth strategy
  • Process definition / adherence both internal and external requirements, and technical communications with customers for products in-service and new growth opportunities.
  • This role will be on the local management team, this candidate will have decision making responsibility, expectation to present monthly ALL HANDS to site for Engineering slides
  • Final Engineering sign-off for Notice of Escapes and design/modification external release
  • IP management and ensure adherence to export controls and product licensing
  • Portfolio and Program management awareness at Site level
  • Act as Engineering Representative for Operational Excellence ie OpA, EBS Pull, ENHESA, SQIP, IPCA, JIP, CI initiatives (VAVE , RIE)
  • Represent Engineering on the Site Decision Gate Committee for new tenders and transitions

Essential Functions:
  • Achieve goals for team's focus performance metrics
  • Maintain BDH engineering scorecard
  • Ensures new product development milestones are achieved on time
  • Zero Error designs that enter qualification phase
  • Achieve site's financial budget goals for the engineering team, manage sustaining demand, CAPEX plan, RND spend.
  • Own BDH Engineering Profit Plan
  • Contribute to financial forecasting, stakeholder management of Engineering Sales
  • Foster Design for Six Sigma Culture
  • Provide leadership as a second level manager - including communications and engagement - for the site's engineering managers and engineering team. Provide mentorship, technical advice, and oversight to engineers.
  • Compliance with procedures (VS*, ACES, EN9100, ARP) and government regulations. Ensure adherence to ProLaunch Gated Process
  • Ensure Engineering compliance to Sustaining processes of Concessions, SCRs, CME sign off and rigor regarding Engineering Change Paperwork in accordance with BDH procedure.
  • Organize and build talent base within the engineering organization, create opportunities for growth and development of engineering team. Maintain staffing plans; hire, retain, and evaluate engineering talent.
  • Conduct Reduction in Force activities if necessary. Support personnel investigations, attendance, disciplinary as required by Site Leadership
  • Monitor performance of the engineering organization to assure that current product support, future product development, and technical support for customers are addressed
  • Report to senior managers on performance, implementation of improvements and corrective actions as required, and engage with customers on performance expectations.
  • Assure efforts to improve the efficiency of the engineering functions are emphasized through creative organizational management, effective of use of engineering tools, appropriate training and continuous improvement.
  • Manage resource capacity demands by coordinating with global engineering resource managers identifying key skills and quantity of resources needed to support programs.
  • Bid resource management and NRE approval at site level, also proposal development and cost estimate input.
  • Leadership sponsor for a safety category
  • Advocate of the 5S process and ensure a 5S culture within the Engineering team

Qualifications

Experience Required
  • Degree qualified candidates are required for this role

Years and area of experience required
  • Minimum 5 years Experience in Engineering in an Aerospace Manufacturing Environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with direct or indirect leadership
  • BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering
  • MS in engineering and/or business management is desirable
  • 5 years leading New Product Development or Research and Development including direct management and supervision of technical professionals

Technical knowledge
  • Experience with an aerospace design, development and certification required
  • Experience with engineering processes/tools required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with fuel or hydraulic systems, hydro-mechanical actuation and control products, fuel control products, or electrical actuation preferred
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) experience (Green or Black Belt preferred)

Soft skills
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication presentation skills and the ability to work well with customers and development team members
  • Ability to effectively present results and recommendations to senior-level Aerospace and customer management is important
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment, get results and drive change through others
  • Ability to manage by influence through solid relationships and process focus
  • Train and develop engineers
