The role is to provide transport and traffic engineering and design support to the Transport Consulting group in London, helping to develop and prepare highway and other transport design solutions using CAD and related software. This will include:
  • Working with large and small project teams to develop designs for transport schemes including car parking, servicing and other building-related access requirements.
  • Providing technical support on data analysis and the requirements of design standards relevant to the location of the project.
  • Using AutoCAD / Microstation and Vehicle Tracking (formerly AutoTRACK) software to prepare CAD drawings of design proposals for issue to multi-disciplinary professional teams, clients and statutory authorities.
  • Working closely with project managers to establish timescales and requirements for deliverables for each project and to manage CAD workload.
  • Working on several concurrent projects and managing demands and deadlines for delivery.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that drawings and other material comply with corporate and project-specific standards and requirements.

Key Skills / Experience:
  • 3 + years of experience working in transport planning and engineering, ideally on projects progressing towards and through planning application or design approvals stages.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and Vehicle Tracking (formerly AutoTRACK).
  • Knowledge of relevant highway design standards and guidance, including the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, Traffic Signs Manual and Manual for Streets.
  • Knowledge of design guidance and standards for car parking and servicing, including IStructE car park design guidance and FTA design guidance for servicing and deliveries & designing for cycling infrastructure (e.g. London Cycle Design Guidelines) and bus infrastructure,
  • Experience of working with other disciplines including architects, masterplanners, landscape architects, as part of multi-disciplinary project teams.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of Microstation, Rhino and GIS packages.
  • Experience in the use of related highway design packages including KeySIGN, KeyLINES and KeyACCIDENT
  • Experience gained from working in the consultancy sector would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge or interest in the use of junction capacity analysis software, data processing or road safety
