Innovation Strategy Manager, LSEG Labs

Role description, team description and department description:

The Innovation Strategy Manager operates within the LSEG Labs team, as part of the Group Strategy function. This person engages across the LSEG organisation globally to evaluate and analyse incoming project proposals from the Capital Markets, Post-Trade and Data & Analytics Divisions, to determine their suitability for Labs and/or make other strategic recommendations e.g. determine commercial value and potential execution options. They may also identify outbound opportunities to engage LSEG's divisions in innovation initiatives happening across the business. The Innovation Strategy Manager will help build the Labs pipeline through leading and partnering on assessment, prioritisation and iteration.

The Labs team, as part of the Global Strategy function, aligns with LSEG's Divisions and Business Units to partner on strategically important innovation initiatives for growth and has teams in both London and Singapore. Suitability criteria for initiatives include alignment with LSEG global strategic themes, customer demand, market or industry landscape, and ability to execute. The Lab(s) engages with strategic initiatives to de-risk ideas, learn or fail fast, make recommendations and experiment with new technologies and approaches.

Key responsibilities of the role:

This role will work closely with leaders and teams across Labs, Strategy, and the divisions and business units at the London Stock Exchange Group, with the goal of identifying the best opportunities to innovate in new areas and constantly strive to build something new to shape our firm and the world around us. The Labs team operates rigorous, rapid, hypothesis-driven innovation.

You will be working on a variety of cross-regional and multi-functional projects.

  • Lead and/or participate in activities and outcomes in the 'Scan', 'Assess' and 'Plan' phases of the Labs Lifecycle
  • Scan for strategic initiatives and respond to incoming idea pipeline
  • Assess: Lead and collaborate with cross-functional team members on opportunity sizing and to identify, scope, and concept-test innovative products leveraging emerging technologies.
  • Assess: Identify market gaps and implement baseline data and model feasibility to aggressively de-risk and systematically scope opportunities.
  • Assess: Apply understanding of current industry trends to analyze and review diverse issues
  • Assess: Trigger insights from the creative synthesis of customer research, market analysis and future visioning to identify opportunities for innovation at LSEG.
  • Assess: Lead the identification of target consumer segments and offer guidance on the strategic direction of the product to cross-functional peers based on market research insights and co-creation with internal or external partners
  • Assess & Plan: Craft and form the innovation strategy around strategic themes and ensure that emerging technology and customers perspectives guide the innovation process, while working with senior stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Plan: Drive recommendations for onward execution of innovation initiatives along with build/buy/partner proposals


Key Behaviours, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a highly quantitative field such as data science, engineering, applied mathematics, or an MBA
  • Well-versed in evaluating new ideas with stakeholders, defining product-market fit, while maintaining a clear focus on overarching business priorities
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) across a mix of stakeholders - from highly technical stakeholders to the C-suite
  • A demonstrated and focused desire to build products and services that customers will love
  • Ability to apply a broad perspective to identify potential solutions to complex problems
  • Experience in corporate strategy and/or managing cross-functional teams and projects is advantageous
  • Ability to lead and work in multi-disciplinary teams composed of data scientists, designers, and developers to define a concept and create crisp requirements
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies and the software development lifecycle
  • Ideally, prior experience in finance or capital markets, and a passion for emerging technologies
  • Experience working with relational, NoSQL, or graph databases is advantageous
