Workshop Manager

Haywards Heath area

Salary circa £45000 per annum

The role:

Reporting to the company MD and responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the workshop.

Managing a team of highly skilled engineers and workshop controllers, this role requires an experienced manager able to support the team to achieve their daily jobs.

We are seeking someone who can positively engage the team, has good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks effectively, to make decisions and get things done without supervision.

Good customer service skills are essential for this role as there is an element of customer facing interaction, ensuring the company is providing excellent service throughout the business.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for allocating work to the engineers effectively based on skill set and job location

Day to day running of the workshop, ensuring scheduled work is completed daily and any issues addressed promptly to have minimum customer impact

Working closely with the engineers and supporting the team whilst keeping own knowledge up to date

Adhering to and ensuring staff follow health and safety policies

Investigating any complaints and liaising with the office manager to ensure a response is given in a timely manner

Ensuring staff have the right skills and are up to date in all aspects of their training

Coaching and supporting staff on training needs

Supporting the development of an engaged, talented and high performing engineering team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture

Working closely with the management team to identify any areas in need of change

Implementing a strong work ethic and promoting customer excellence

Supervising the workshop controllers:

Ensuring the engineer's weekly diaries are scheduled in the most effective way based on their technical skills

Overseeing all goods deliveries to ensure they are logged accurately and match the order

Ensuring optimum management of stock

Skills / competencies required:

Experienced scheduler

Strong people manager and experience of leading a team

Calm under pressure


Coaching and mentoring abilities

Strong planning and organisation skills

Honesty and integrity - leading by example
