Are you looking for a temporary role counselling students in a university setting.

This role is all short-term based interventions to encourage students on their path of self development and find solutions to manage their anxieties and stresses. Randstad is on the search for experienced counsellors ready to join an exciting opportunity, working flexibly with university students in Birmingham providing counselling and mental health services on a one-one basis specific to the individual's needs. In addition, this is a remote role working with university students in Edinburgh but would involve going to collect some equipment from the university.


£22.00 per hour
£2.70 per hour holiday pay - perfect for the summer holidays and Christmas breaks
Counselling sessions expected to be 3 days per week, with 5 one hour sessions per day (with some variation based on your availability)
Flexible working hours - you chose when you work
Opportunity to provide other support roles such as a Specialist Mental Health Mentor.
Hybrid of working on Campus (2 days) and remote working.


Provide therapeutic counselling support to students experiencing emotional and mental health issues based on their own unique needs.
Working 1:1 on certain issues such as transition, anxiety, self help, self-esteem, eating distress, procrastination and exam panic.
Empathising with the students over their personal and emotional needs while working alongside with the student to promote self help, using self help tools.
Following risk assessment and safeguarding escalation processes stated by both Randstad and the university the student attends
Maintaining a confidential approach at all times when working with the students or discussing any information with any other members of staff. Meeting all GDPR requirements


Educated to postgraduate Diploma or Masters Level in counselling, psychotherapy or counselling psychology and hold an accredited professional body membership

Accredited Membership (or working towards accreditation) of the BACP, UKCP
A clear DBS to cover vulnerable adults
Monthly clinical supervision in order to maintain your professional standards


Keeping up to date with developments in your area of practice and contributing to improvements of operations in the team.
Experience of counselling in University setting and experience of caseload management.
Ability to triage student needs quickly and appropriately
Risk assessment and management skills
