Our PICU services are therapy and recovery focused, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for men who are experiencing an acute breakdown of their mental health who cannot be managed within a general acute service due to the nature of the presentation/risks. The aim of the service is to stabilise their mental health to then promote engagement in treatment whilst planning discharge.
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will work under the direction and leadership of a registered Occupational Therapist to complete observations, assessments and interventions to support patients who are experiencing acute episodes of mental illness that require intensive care and treatment. You will co-facilitate a variety of leisure activities to the patients to support their quality of life and also aid skill development. You will be actively involved in generating new ideas for the therapeutic planners and innovative ways to support patient to achieve their goals. You will be involved in contributing to risk management strategies, and will feedback on patient engagement and presentation to the ward Occupational Therapist.
Each of the wards have access to their own Occupational Therapy resources including an OT kitchen and an Activity Room in addition to other shared resources within the building including a gym and the Recovery College.
You will be responsible for providing direct clinical interventions under the direction of an experienced qualified Occupational Therapist. In this role you will assess, implement and develop an Occupational Therapy treatment programme to meet the patients' needs to support them with their recovery in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.

The Successful Candidate should be/have:
Experienced in the field of mental health desired
An understanding of Occupational Therapy process/interventions and can take a "hands on" approach
Excellent communication and time management skills
