Director of International Affairs
The Royal Society is a self-governing Fellowship of many of the world’s most distinguished scientists drawn from all areas of science, engineering, and medicine. The Society’s fundamental purpose, is to recognise, promote, and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity.
The Royal Society are now looking for an exceptional candidate for the role of Director of International Affairs.
Science is an inherently international activity, and the Society has always taken an international approach to its responsibilities, drawing its Fellowship, for example, from well beyond the shores of the UK.
The Director of International Affairs will play a leading role in the realisation of the Society’s strategic plans to extend the reach, impact and influence of its work with partners and audiences in parts of the world where science is already well established and in areas where science is currently less well developed
This key role reports into the Executive Director Dr Julie Maxton and will be an active member of our Senior Management Team, leading a team of experienced staff with internationally focused roles.
The ideal candidate will have a broad range of skills, be a compelling communicator, have the ability to manage a wide range of stake holders, with effective networks throughout the UK as well as internationally and will be responsive to ‘what matters’ within the Fellowship, academia, business, government, the wider science and innovation community.

Pay Band: G
Salary: £85,000 to £95,000 per annum
Hours: Full time, 35 hours a week
Location: Carlton House Terrace, London with some remote working and some international travel
Team and Line Management: Team of five, with line management of two Heads of International
