A Local Authority based in South Yorkshire is currently recruiting for a Highways engineer to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, temporary position and the ideal candidate will have proven experience in delivering Highway/ Civil Engineering Contracts.

The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the undertaking of project or function related activities concerned with major highway schemes / development and other civil engineering initiatives; as a project manager or member of a team of engineering / technical staff.

The main responsibilities of the role:

Feasibility study for highway schemes to provide cost effective solutions.
Assessment and procurement of survey requirements that is required for the detailed design - traffic, geotechnical, topographical and drainage etc.
Detailed design including pavement design, vertical and horizontal alignments.
Liaising, programming and managing statutory undertakers diversion works, to ensure that these works do not adversely affect the scheme programme.
Preparation of Contract Documents for NEC and other contracts.
Supervision of Contractors and Consultants, agreement of measurements and valuations and arrangement of payments.
Produce financial, progress and performance reports, which will support the Project Manager in reporting effectively to the internal Project Board and external funder, i.e Sheffield City Region
Engage in consultation with internal and external stakeholders which include but not limited to S.Y. Police, SYPTE, Network Rail and community groupsRequirements:

Qualified to HNC in a Civil Engineering discipline
Proven experience in delivering Highway/ Civil Engineering Contracts
Technical knowledge related to highways.
Aware of responsibilities under CDM Regulations and other relevant Health and Safety Legislation.
Knowledge of the NEC Engineering and Construction Contract.
Ability to work alone or to lead a project team
Experience in the use of computers, Microsoft Office, Autocad and other bespoke packages used in highways design.
Understanding of the Council Financial Procedures.
Excellent communication skills
Member of a Institute of Highways Engineers (IHE) or equivalent/ relevant Professional OrganisationThe client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £35 - £37 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx. £816 - £854 p/week NET after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
