Our client, our tier 1 contractor, are seeking a site engineer to work on a water framework on a 4-month contract. This position is to start as soon as possible.

Role Description:

The engineer is required to assist the Site Manager in delivering the ground investigation, assisting with inductions, utility clearance, permits, coordinating support staff (ecologists, archaeologists) and machinery. For example:

• Provide real time geotechnical data to third parties, thereby potentially reducing scope and saving time.

• Oversee consenting-driven boreholes, reporting assessment of potentially contaminated ground conditions.


• Enable outperformance through efficient and timely allocation of resources. Drilling rates vary for numerous reasons; identifying completion timeframes enables the Site Manager to schedule resources.

• Assessing geological homogeneity; advise design teams accordingly. Replicated drilling of paired boreholes to be curtailed as homogeneity is recognised.

• Understanding potential hazards; limited information requiring on-site assessment to improve RAG categorisation, including identifying asbestos.

• Understand futility; know when to stop or change.

• Understanding hydrogeological conditions; rates and depth of groundwater infiltration, perched water, impact on TP stability are all key to completing the CSM to be used in final design.

• Understanding H&S; familiarity with risk ranking, understanding bad behaviour, communicating client goals.

• Clear and concise reporting; reporting key data to oversight team in opportunity to give a breakdown of what the role will look like on a day-to-day basis so that the candidates understand the role on a deeper level. You could advise on the key relationships that need to be managed or the efficiencies that need to be delivered to a format that allows real time decision making.

• Understand the requirements and the ability of setting out and the programme of works it relates to.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Hands on experience of a multi-faceted intrusive works.

• Experience of both geotechnical and combined geo-environmental investigations.

• Site walkovers in support of desk studies, identifying features, risks, obstacles, ecological features, hydrological characteristics.

• HS47 utility clearance, Cat A Asbestos Awareness, SSSTS would be desirable

• Proficient in the use of survey and setting out equipment such as GPS/EDM
