The credit system has been designed to keep data in the hands of companies, not people. We're looking for a Product Designer to join our mission to make people's data work for them, not against them.

Our app puts our 4 million+ financially underserved customers in control of their data - giving them the information and tools they need to understand and improve their credit score, make better borrowing decisions and genuinely move their finances forward.

The credit system has been designed to keep data in the hands of companies, not people. We're looking for a Product Designer to join our mission to make people's data work for them, not against them.

The role:

Reporting to the Lead Product Designer, you'll be joining a friendly, diverse design team currently numbering 9 people. You'll work day to day in a multidisciplinary product team, partnering with product managers, engineers, researchers and product marketers to define the vision and design strategy for your product area, and iteratively execute against that.

You'll be working within our "Serve Mission" - a product team tasked with helping match our users with the right types of credit product for their needs. You'll be working with complex product data from lenders and credit reference agencies, matching it with open banking data and creating simple and transparent solutions that help people use credit in better ways.

You'll focus on:
  • Being the voice of design, working with product managers and tech leads to deliver high quality output that prioritises customer outcomes and balances effort & impact.
  • Aligning with your design lead, and other members of the design team to create a cohesive experience for our users.
  • Bringing others along on the journey via workshops, critiques and presentations.
  • Using design thinking processes to uncover user needs and mental models around credit products, and designing solutions to better meet these needs in innovative ways.
  • Taking opaque and complex credit product information, and simplifying it down to useful, relevant and timely recommendations for our customers.

What do we use?

Design Tools: As well as post-its and sharpies (and zoom these days), we use collaborative tools like Figma, Miro and Notion. Our squads use Jira for the majority of the day to day. The design system is being built in Zeroheight.

Research: We have a dedicated user researcher, but still expect our product designers to be able to conduct research with support. We have for all your remote research needs and a customer panel in the works.

Tech Stack: Our Front Ends use React and React Native.

Data: Our data team use Google Analytics and Looker for most data analysis, but you'll have a product analyst/data scientist dedicated to your wider team, so you won't need to know these in depth.

You'll succeed in this role if you're:
  • Comfortable and happy working across both of the double diamonds (with support!) from Research to UI and everything in between. We're looking for T-shaped designers, no unicorns here.
  • A systems thinker, you love digging into the data and working out how to solve complex problems in simple ways.
  • Using data & research to prove or disprove your hypothesis, understanding that shipped is better than perfect.
  • A self starter, you'll be comfortable managing your own time, breaking projects down into small increments.
  • Confident applying best practices to common problems - there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
  • A stickler for detail and also enjoy the bigger picture.
  • Navigating the constraints of tight and complex regulatory frameworks, while still keeping a user-first mindset.
  • Happy to contribute to design team processes, the design system and any other activities that can enable us to do great work.

You'll have:
  • Proven experience working in-house within cross functional, agile product teams.
  • A portfolio showcasing your strategy and process - not just the final solution. Some of the things we look for in case-studies include: A deep understanding of the problem space, a pragmatic design approach with strong hypotheses and clear measures of success on top of the final execution.
  • Demonstrable experience designing for and building native apps (iOS or Android) and responsive web designs.
  • Experience working with existing design systems, preferably in Figma.
  • Experience working within ecommerce environments.

If you think you are qualified for this role but don't necessarily tick every box, please submit an application. The 'perfect candidate' doesn't exist.

What you'll get:
  • Flexible working hours, 2 days in the office minimum
  • On-target bonus scheme based on company performance: we all work together to achieve our goals
  • Enhanced maternity leave
  • Access to healthy training budgets
  • Mental health and wellbeing perks like talking therapies with Self Space, monthly mindfulness and fortnightly yoga
  • Vitality Health Insurance and reward scheme (inc. 50% off Virgin Active gyms), Perkbox membership, wellbeing budgets and Cycle to Work scheme
  • Early finish Fridays (also in the office, we enjoy beers, wine, music, and table tennis on Friday afternoons)
  • 25 days of annual leave (plus 8 bank holidays), 2 CEO-discretionary days off at Christmas, and the option to purchase an extra week
  • 2 days off per year for charity volunteering (paid)
  • 2 annual company socials, plus a regular social calendar throughout the year
  • When in the office, we enjoy a well-stocked fridge and food cupboards, and a variety of business-backed activities, such as football, badminton, video games, and a board game league.
