Academic Support Teaching Assistant - EY / KS1 | Literacy and Numeracy support | Southwark

About the Role
This school based in the heart of Southwark. They are looking to fill a Teaching Assistant job in Key Stage 1 in order to help "close the gap" and increase children's academic attainment levels throughout the school. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be degree educated with strong academic abilities and a calm and patient nature in order to work with the children and improve their academic abilities.

The school itself is based in Southwark and is an inclusive mainstream school, therefore the role will suit someone who is empathetic towards children with special educational needs. The role will include offering general support to the class teacher and academic support to pupils, especially in Literacy and Numeracy, you will be responsible for delivering behaviour and academic interventions. The purpose of the role is to prepare pupils for SATs and the transition from EY into the KS1 curriculum.

To be considered for this role you must:

  • Have strong academic abilities
  • Have a good understanding of the UK national curriculum and child safeguarding and protection procedures
  • A strong command of English
  • Build a strong rapport quickly and efficiently with parents, teachers and pupils
  • Confident supporting pupils across mixed learning abilities
