Lead Production engineer / Production account manager

Holborn, London

£45,000 - £50,000 ish

My client based in London are looking to hire a Production Manager for a versatile engineering and design consultancy with proven pedigree in developing solutions to challenging engineering and manufacturing issues.

This person will be more focussed on Account Management of our Manufacturing projects in China, but based out of London.

The company focusses on reducing the time and cost of launching new consumer products in a diverse range of sectors including consumer goods to medical devices, we support engineering, certification, manufacturing, and supply chain. We handle everything in the development and supply chain, giving clients space to launch and scale a brand.

As a Production Manager you will lead the supply chain setup and manufacturing of a new commercial equipment product that has been developed the current team.

Job Purpose / Objectives

To manage the delivery of one of our manufacturing projects through the transition from engineering development in the London office to supply chain setup and manufacturing in our Chinese office.

This includes:

" To run and manage RFQs for component and manufacturer pricing, with support from our local team in Shenzhen to obtain the best pricing opportunities.

" To work with the Engineering Team to develop quality control processes and reporting systems to be operated in the factory

" To develop and manage a project plan for the setup and ongoing manufacturing of the product

" To work with Finance in London to plan cashflow and procurement programs, including managing Purchase Orders to suppliers

" To work with suppliers and the China office to oversee potential issues and questions, acquiring the necessary information and support from the London engineering team

" To work with customers to receive, manage and track orders for both batch and continuous production delivery

" To monitor production performance of the factories, tracking key yield and delivery KPIs and managing necessary feedback where required to improve these

" To work with the China team to organise shipments via air, sea and rail, including booking shipments with forwarders and managing the logistics plan

" To act as the project lead in the on-going manufacturing project as a central point of information and status

" To work with the executive and management team on process improvements and continuous learning in the production areas of our systems

This role will be focussed on the following KPIs:

" Time compliance of the operation, to the plan you set out

" Production yield and efficiency, based on the information captured and resolution you put in place

" Product delivery timelines, based on the plan you set out and supplier compliance to this

" Financial accuracy of forecasting

Competencies

" At least 5 years of experience working in manufacturing project management

" At least 5 years of working with Chinese manufacturers and suppliers

" Strong skills in developing and managing forecasting and planning spreadsheets and using planning software

" Background understanding of manufacturing processes in mechanical and electronic components and assemblies

" Experience of working with engineering teams and manufacturers in developing quality control and assembly processes

" Requires good listening, strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to non-technical audiences

" Must have initiative, self-motivation and the confidence to make decisions

" Must be diligent in work, paying special attention to detail

" Proficient in MS Excel and Word

Preferred (Key Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

" Experience working with Chinese Manufacturers in various production process facilities

" Previous fast-paced product development experience

" Proven experience seeing component parts through design and development to mass manufacture

" Able to identify and mitigate risk through problem solving via planning, forecasting and team management

" Engineering experience and background preferred

" Open to global travel, including 4-6 trips to the Chinese office throughout the year
