Exciting Trusts & Foundations role for a leading medical research charity

Client Details

Spinal Research is an international research charity working to end paralysis for people with spinal cord injury.

Their mission is to give hope to those 50,000 people in the UK and 3 million worldwide living with paralysis because of a spinal cord injury. After funding many of the key breakthroughs in the field during the last two decades, they are now on the cusp of turning some of these incredible discoveries into meaningful treatments to restore function to people living with paralysis, and their world-class research relies on dynamic fundraising.


The successful candidate will manage the Trusts & Foundation function, strategy and operation, securing restricted and unrestricted income in line with agreed income targets. They will establish and maintain the charity's position at the forefront of UK fundraising from charitable trusts and foundations dedicated to advancing treatments for those with spinal cord injury.

Key duties include:
  • Developing, writing and tailoring compelling funding proposals and reports to submit to major Trusts and Foundations
  • Cultivating and sustaining relationships with Trusts & Foundations through appropriate stewardship activities
  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy to identify new Trusts & Foundations opportunities and to develop plans to target these
  • Finding creative ways to fund new activities
  • Maintaining a rolling cycle of applications to existing funders in a timely and appropriate manner, ensuring all needs and deadlines are met
  • Developing effective relationships with the fundraising team and wider charity to develop persuasive and completing proposals and reports

  • Track record of generating significant growth in income from Trusts and Foundations
  • Detailed understanding of the trust and foundations environment, ideally with an understanding of medical research funding.
  • Demonstrable experience in grant writing, management, reporting and prospect research
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to write and develop attractive, concise and persuasive fundraising proposals, reports and other communications
  • Strong IT literacy including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, experience of using a fundraising database - (ideally ThankQ) is desirable
  • Excellent and systematic planning and administrative skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with an ability to connect easily with colleagues and donors
  • Ensure that applications and communications follow industry best practice, GDPR regulations and Institute of Fundraising guidelines
  • Able to work at pace in a digital, agile culture

Job Offer

City of London Location with office and remote working

Salary £35-40k per year

Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours a week

25 days paid holiday plus Bank holidays

8% non-contributory pension plus other benefits
