Purchasing Manager - Retail - National

Our Retail Director Mike, has an opportunity to join his team as a Purchasing Manager. This role a National role, our ideal candidate would be based in the Midlands as our Support Office is at Norton Canes Motorway Services on the M6 toll road near Cannock and your salary would be up to £40,000

Role Overview:

Working within the Commercial team this national role is responsible for the management of the food and non food purchasing activity within Roadchef's WHSmith / Retail (PrezzyBox & Spar) stores to include sourcing, implementing, supply and category management. Category Management to include all food and non food product ranges as stated above, and some categories outside of the retail environment such as Print. The role will perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals and find more profitable suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

To lead, develop and execute the Retail purchasing strategies across the Roadchef business in adherence to the commercial trade plan and franchise terms. The retail scope covers WHS, PrezzyBox and Spar units.
Develop the promotional trade plan selecting from the promotional plan. Compile a promotional planner to include deal agreements, margins and POS requirements, achieving sign off from the Retail Commercial Manager.
Develop negotiation strategies and conclude purchasing deals with optimal terms with the purpose to drive performance whilst managing inbound stock and exit liabilities.
Constantly review the marketplace to ensure that the best suppliers are being considered for price, quality and service whilst identifying innovative new opportunities.
Manage and support the negotiation of all supplier Joint Business Plans and be the day to day contact for suppliers.
Produce forecast prices and market trends to identify and mitigate any risks, identifying benefits and opportunities within the commercial terms.
Ensure high quality communications exist between all parts of the business with active co-responsibility for the store weekly communications document (ATSE).
Complete regular research to seek out and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.
Work with the Data Team to inform our Retail Store teams to ensure our customers are presented with the right information for purchasing, adhering to all our statutory legal trading requirements.
Develop the demand forecasting strategy in conjunction with the Retail Commercial Manager monitoring availability and managing excess supply and clearance strategies as required.
Work closely with the retail support and site teams to ensure successful implementation of ranges and product skus to maximise sales performance.
Conduct site visits to obtain feedback on supplier performance, identify trends, performance gaps and additional opportunities to improve commercial delivery.
Work with the site teams to improve product availability and manage any supplier delivery challenges.
Work with the Procurement and Supply Chain Management team to support the day to day business supply needs.

Key Skills/Experience

Have a strong working experience as purchasing manager, agent or officer
Experience of sourcing and vendor management
Interest in market dynamics along with strong business acumen
Able to demonstrate a skill for negotiation and networking and working experience of vendor management software
Solid judgement along with decision making skills with strong relationship building capabilities, able to influence others with the ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures
Efficient time management and decision-making abilities
Enthusiastic, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment
Strong organisational skills, including planning and prioritising work
Proactive and demonstrated ability to improve process efficiency
Ability to work across the region including frequent overnight stays away from home
A strong attention to detail across all aspects of the role
IT literate- including Google & Microsoft
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, ensuring work is delivered on time and right first time attitude towards high standards and to meeting team deadlines. Be self motivated at all times
Adaptable and versatile, responding positively when change is required or plans are altered.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with colleagues and external stakeholders.
