About The RoleAs a global IoT platform service and cellular connectivity provider, developing a portfolio of IoT devices and hardware connectivity options that the market would love and need is a critical part of delivering a successful IoT development experience to makers, developers and mass production customers.

We are looking for an experienced IoT Device Product Manager to organise and oversee the maintenance of our existing products and the development and release of new products. As a Product Manager, you will translate product development ideas into features and action plans, and manage the end-to-end development cycle from planning to commercial launch.

As our first IoT Device Product Manager in Europe, you will be responsible for managing the portfolio of devices, including creating a hardware roadmap that will strengthen Soracom's IoT ecosystem and provide customers with the best hardware options across various device segments that will lead to their business success. To be successful in this role, you should be a perceptive leader with a keen eye for market opportunities and details, a creative and reliable problem-solver, and a team player with superb communication skills.

The ideal candidate for this position must have a proven track record as a project or product manager experienced in product development of connectivity devices. You should also be familiar with technical aspects of cellular/LPWAN technology, microprocessors and sensors, as well as the ecosystems of makers, developers, vendors, and other stakeholders in the IoT industry.

As a device product manager, you should be comfortable collaborating not only with external device manufacturers, module vendors and makers/developers, but also with internal sales, marketing, business development, back office and engineering teams. In all aspects, you are expected to deliver results, build trust in the collaboration with external and internal partners, and create the right products that the end-customers need and love.

Responsibilities
  • [Research]
  • Discover the market needs, collect and analyse feedback from customers and understand our current and potential customers thoroughly
  • Identify the gaps between product lineup and features and develop new product ideas to improve customer experience and drive growth
[Plan]
  • Develop product strategies consistent with the company's vision
  • Communicate product vision effectively with both internal and external partners
  • Translate product strategies into detailed Product Requirement Documents (PRD)
  • Create and review product roadmap, prioritisation, pricing, portfolio, sales channel and positioning strategies for the business and the customers
  • Working closely with the Partnerships team, leverage existing and develop new relationships with relevant device partners
  • Work with external partners to procure and evaluate samples, establish consignment or other sales strategies, and identify regional certification or legal requirements
  • Work with other team members to shape operational requirements, develop and review product messaging, and evaluate and prioritise launch activities
[Execute]
  • Ensure products are launched correctly and on-schedule
  • Work closely with other team members to coordinate engineering, logistics, and validation tasks to optimise resources and deliver quick time-to-market
  • Work with public relations team, executives, and other product management members to drive product launches and oversee promotional activities
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful product lifecycles
[Follow up]
  • Advise on the ways to track product usage and the impact on end-users
  • Identify and fill product gaps, generating new ideas that grow market share, improve customer experience and drive growth
  • Evaluate promotional plans to ensure that they are consistent with the product line strategy and that the message is effectively conveyed
  • Act as a product evangelist to build awareness and understanding
  • Act as a representative of the company to collect feedback from customers on the products and services
RequirementsRequired skills and experience
  • 5+ years experience developing and planning device products
  • 2+ years experience working as a Product Manager or similar role
  • Proven ability to develop product and marketing strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to top management
  • Proven track record of managing all aspects of product lifecycle (planning, designing, development, validation, procurement, supply chain, QC/QA, etc.)
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Hands-on experience with device development and validation
  • Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Familiarity with Agile framework
  • Problem-solving aptitude and creative thinking skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of public cloud services (AWS, Google, Azure)
  • Demonstrated understanding of microcontroller devices (Arduino, ESP32)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Linux devices and routers
  • Experience working remotely in a multicultural environment
  • Experience working in a tech start-up like environment
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on experience in software development and web technologies
  • Experience contributing in IoT communities
  • Experience coding on Arduino, ESP32, M5stack, or similar microcontroller devices
  • Existing relationships or contacts with cellular module and device vendors
