Seasonal Activity Instructor skills and experience:

The role of seasonal activity instructor requires prior proven experience of outdoor or creative education. Knowledge of safeguarding measures and their application is essential.

Other desirable prior skills and experience include:

Ability to motivate and inspire others.

Strong, clear communication skills and the ability to establish a rapport with a wide range of people.

Experience of working directly with teams of young people (either in voluntary or paid capacity).

Excellent customer service skills, including rapport and empathy with young people.

Relevant and in date First Aid Qualification.

Full driving license held for min. two years

Technical knowledge of activity safety equipment to enable appropriate purchasing, inspection, repairs, and maintenance.

Decision making skills and the ability to stay calm in difficult, even dangerous, situations.

Strong planning and organisational skills.

It is not essential but would be advantageous for candidates to have registration and training in further relevant NGB qualifications.

Seasonal Activity Instructor role responsibilities:

Our seasonal activity instructors deliver a wide range of bespoke activity sessions to differing client groups, balancing the need for safety with creating optimal learning outcomes through challenging experiences.

You will provide a positive experience to all YHA customers and contribute both locally and nationally, to the wider strategy, vision, values and mission of YHA in reaching out to young people.

As seasonal activity instructor you will ensure the ongoing logistical viability of a specific activity area by liaising with external bodies in relation to access and overseeing the checking and maintenance of equipment and infrastructure within budgetary constraints.

You will deliver best practice in safety by adhering to YHA standards.

Dynamic risk assessments will be deployed at all times as the essential framework of both safety and quality.

You will be a key point of contact with group leaders to assist them in their role and to develop a mutually supportive relationship to enable leaders to contribute to activity delivery.
