Category Buyer - Initial 3 year contract!
Can be based near Peterborough, Peterlee, Desford - currently hybrid WFH/Office
Up to £23.20 per hour PAYE / Up to £30.50 per hour via an umbrella company
We're looking for a Category Buyer to join a world leading manufacturer of construction and off highway machinery on an initial 3 year contract, which is likely to extend for the right person. You will join their UK based procurement team that's responsible for Purchased Finished Drivetrain products, such as friction material, gearboxes, yokes, driveshafts and more. Primarily working from home currently, but you will need to be on site as needed.
What the Category Buyer's remit involves:
To serve as the primary contact for commercial discussions and negotiations with suppliers
Be accountable for the development and implementation of a regional strategy into support of a global sourcing strategy in Drivetrain components.
Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers to lead and drive continuous improvement in Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development and Management (QCLDM) with key suppliers.
Responsible for development, management, and execution of the regional category strategy managing policies, agreements, source catalogues, and special procurement programs.
Ensure business continuity, supplier risk management (capacity & financial), assurance of supply, contract management, supplier commercial negotiations, cost / spend management, Total Cost of Acquisition (TCA) assurance, supplier on / off boarding, response time optimisation and resource management decisions
Skills and experience we're looking for:
Proven experience in purchasing - ideally gained in an automotive, heavy machinery or aerospace manufacturing environment
Effective communicator in written and oral form at all levels within the business units and supply base
Sound negotiation experience; able to interpret, analyse, and negotiate contractual cost elements.
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and QCLDM
Supplier Capacity planning tools such as Rough Cut Capacity Planning (would be great)
Ideally experience working with other European cultures as many of the suppliers are in Western Europe (Germany, France, Italy)
