The Aquatic Ecology team are part of the 2400 strong Water and Environment group, supporting clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Working as part of large multidisciplinary teams, our team deliver environmental monitoring programmes, support planning applications, undertake consenting and advisory roles and post project appraisal of a wide range of projects. We are currently delivering a number of high profile national infrastructure developments, power, water and transport infrastructure projects, national flood defence and restoration schemes. Jacobs are a globally respected and ambitious organisation, (ranked #1 Ecology/Wildlife consulting firm in 2019, runner up CIEEM Large Consultancy of the Year 2020 and #1 Environmental Consultant to the UK public sector (Environment Analyst 2020).
The Associate Director (Freshwater) role is an opportunity to develop and shape a dedicated technical team, build upon the existing extensive project portfolio and lead the team to change. As a team leader you will have responsibility for setting the strategic direction of the team and join the management team for the wider Aquatic ecology team. You will enthusiastically lead from the front, being the first point of contact in the provision of expert advice to both clients and stakeholders. Experience in engagement with clients, customers and environmental regulators is essential. As a leader you will support the growth, development and resilience of the team, through empathic leadership and individuals personal development.
Day to day you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical skills, contributing to Environmental Impact Assessment, Habitat Regulations Assessment and Water Framework Directive assessments, providing expert advice and managing the UK freshwater team. The ability to develop networks across disciplines within the business will set you apart from others. Many of our projects are complex in nature and you will be required to work with other disciplines to create effective solutions. Creating an environment accessible to other specialist is essential to our project success.
As well as driving delivery of our current portfolio you will contribute to the identification, bidding and winning of work through the Water and Environment business unit Sales team. This will best leverage the capability of the team to win and deliver new and challenging work. Engagement with Jacobs wider corporate functions to promote the capabilities of your team is an exciting component to the role, lifting our profile both internally and externally.

- A background in freshwater ecology and 15 years of relevant industry experience
- Experience in the production of EIA, WFD, HRA and technical reporting
- Demonstrable experience working on large scale environmental projects
- Chartered membership of a professional body (or experience to obtain chartership)
- Willingness to undertake line management responsibilities and a business leadership role
- Strategic mindset able to contribute to wide team leadership
- Confident to take on a mentor role to junior staff
- Flexible approach to working, with occasional travel required across the UK and Ireland
- Inquisitiveness and willingness to learn
- A 'hands on' work ethic and good self-awareness
- Ability to adapt to working on a wide range of projects
