The starting salary for this role is £21.43 per hour.
Are you looking for a role with a difference? We are looking for a well organised and enthusiastic person to act as clerk to our school appeal panels.
This role is based at Brooklands, Weybridge, but you will need to work at other locations within the County. You will be paid on an hourly basis for actual hours worked and will be employed on a zero hours based bank contract.
School admission appeals are heard by Independent Appeal Panels consisting of three volunteers. Appeals are heard throughout the year, normally not in school holidays, but the busiest period is between April - July. Meetings are held in the daytime but do occasionally run until early evening. Appeal hearings are held at venues across the County and so you will be expected to travel.
The role is to ensure that the relevant facts are presented to the Independent Appeal Panel, to order the business of the meeting, to provide an independent source of advice and to record the proceedings and decision. Above all, the role of the clerk is to ensure that appeals by parents are heard fairly and impartially and that the rules of natural justice are followed.
You will have previous experience in the clerking of school appeals or similar hearings, or a background in Committee work, or relevant experience of clerking and/or minute taking. A good standard of education is required, at least to GCSE level or equivalent. You must also have previous experience of working with the public and minute or note taking. Full training in the law on school admission appeals and procedures to be followed will be given. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, able to remain calm and firm under pressure, who is a good team player with a flexible approach to work.
