About the Company

Gafta, the Grain and Feed Trade Association, is an international trade association with over 1900 members in 100 countries. Members include traders, brokers, superintendents, analysts, fumigators, arbitrators, individuals, and professional service companies.

Gafta develops the standard forms of contracts on which it is estimated that 80% of the world's trade in grain is shipped. Gafta's arbitration service provides parties who use our standard forms of contract with a system to resolve trade disputes in a fast and efficient manner. Gafta also provides informed opinions on legislative and policy developments, publishes key industry data on the market and trade issues, and runs various training programmes and networking events.

The Vacancy

A vacancy has arisen for the position of Arbitration Manager. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Arbitration Manager is responsible for managing the work of the arbitration service and line managing the Arbitration Executive and Arbitration Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to international arbitrators at top law firms and work closely with senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the Arbitration team and ensure Gafta's arbitration service is run to the highest standard;
Liaise with Gafta's General Counsel and Head of Operations regarding HR matters;
Advise on ways to improve efficiency and make savings in arbitration processes and procedures;
Develop and maintain personal relationships with all Gafta arbitrators and advise the Director General on appointments;
Compile and present the Annual Arbitration Statistics to the Arbitrators' Masterclass;
Work with the Director General and General Counsel to design the agenda for the Arbitration Committee and the International Contracts Committee;
Attend and minute committee meetings;
Review and update contracts as required.The office is based in Holborn, with hours of 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. They operate a hybrid model with some flexibility to work from home as agreed by the business.

Please note that this position will involve some international travel to attend meetings (once or twice annually) and occasional evening commitments (e.g. attending committee dinners).

About You

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:

Law graduate, newly qualified lawyer or experienced paralegal;
Prior experience working in an arbitration or dispute resolution department;
Staff management experience;
Sound IT skills with a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite;
Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent numeracy and literacy skills;
A keen eye for detail, the ability to multi-task and prioritise with a logical approach to solving problems;
Be enthusiastic, possess confidence and the drive to help us exceed the high standards of service we currently provide to our members;
Excellent time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines;
