About the Role

The Design and Requirements Senior Team Leader roles in Making Tax Digital (MTD) are an exciting opportunity for motivated, hardworking and self-starting leaders to join an established and highly experienced team. You will manage a team of Design and Business Analysts to work collaboratively with the business to understand the 'as is' journey for customers and design the 'to be' vision for MTD.

The Making Tax Digital (MTD) Transformation programme is one of HMRC's largest transformation programmes to date. MTD is revolutionising HMRC's current tax collection services, impacting over 12 million customers. MTD is a key part of the government's plans to make it easier for individuals and businesses to get their tax right and keep on top of their affairs. It is essential to delivering HMRC's ambition to become one of the most digitally sophisticated tax administrations in the world.

About the MTD Design and Requirements Team

Making Tax Digital is making fundamental changes to the way the tax system works - redefining tax administration so that it is more efficient, effective and ultimately easier for taxpayers to get their tax right.

The MTD Design and Requirements team is responsible for defining the design and scope of the MTD service. We work across HMRC to understand the services and functionality that our customers will need, and design the service that technical teams will build.

We work collaboratively with all colleagues across the programme as part of a united, single MTD team committed to delivering an excellent service for our customers.

Location

The three advertised vacancies are located in the four sites listed, however we will be appointing at least one role in Newcastle Regional Centre, Benton Park View, Longbenton, Newcastle, NE98 1ZZ.

Our ideal person will have experience in:

• Directing a team in a fast paced and evolving environment, taking a hands-on approach where needed to deliver high quality business outcomes.

• Working closely to build strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, to enable successful collaboration and delivery of shared strategic outcomes.

• Developing and enabling individuals and teams to reach their full potential, championing a self-learning and continuous improvement approach and supporting others through identifying training needs.

• Delivering effectively and at pace through others, working flexibly and taking ownership for planning delivery in line with strategic direction and broader timelines.

• Being an ambassador and role model for your team, promoting their work at a strategic level and responding constructively to challenge and feedback.

This role is suitable for existing HMRC employees who are contractual homeworkers with occasional attendance to the office.

Essential Criteria

• Strong leadership skills, with demonstrable experience of motivating, empowering, and inspiring others - including peers and more senior colleagues - to deliver in an uncertain and fast paced environment.

• Excellent partner/stakeholder management and communication skills, with a shown ability to influence and negotiate constructively to achieve shared objectives.

• Responding to change effectively, with a proven track record to make decisions under challenging circumstances and communicate difficult messages with clarity and sensitivity in way that maintains a positive working environment.
