This role will involve actively working in a matrix organisation structure as a Senior Sub-Contract Buyer within the Integrated Mission Solutions (IMS) sector supporting a range of complex contracts and interacting with strategic suppliers. The main focus for this role will be the management of sub-contract commitments both tangible and intangible in their nature.

The successful candidate will have the ability to manage internal and external relationships and will require broad experiences of working cross functionally in a matrix organisation. the ability to source new suppliers and ideally have experience within a manufacturing / aerospace environment.

The role will see the Senior Sub-Contract Buyer source nationally, negotiate with existing and new suppliers and sourcing a range of products including, but not limited to, electrical and mechanical hardware. Work content will require a level of independence.

Cost reduction, quality, innovation, collaboration, risk and opportunity exploitation are all key parameters for this role. The individual will have strong and effective communication skills, with the ability to develop and nurture internal customer and external supplier relationships and promote collaboration and team working.

What you will do

Be the day to day lead for your IPT area, and with your key suppliers.
Develop and implement robust supply chain relationship to support the business goals.
Work with stakeholders in order to understand Internal Customer demand.
Develop and monitor cost / lead-time reduction targets, by demonstrating value for money.
Lead, evaluate and negotiate the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process.Capture engineering requirements and communicate to the supply base.

Translate customer/ project requirements and capture in commercial documents, and ensuring suppliers are compliant against their contractual obligations.
Working closely with the commercial team to ensure flow downs are captured from head contract terms, and ensuring issue and risk is evaluated and flowed upwards.
Draft contract documents, both using standard and non-standard formats.
Be responsible for the success or failure of the suppliers performance through effective orderbook management.
Actively support the Procurement and Commercial Manager to meet and deliver programme objectives.
Work with stakeholders, at all levels, in order to understand customer requirements and critical success factors
Manage Export Compliance requirements, restrictions and third party rights for all procured items and services

What we are looking for

You really must have:

Appropriate training to HND level or equivalent or significant relevant work experience.
MCIPS or studying towards membership preferred.
Manufacturing / Defence / Aerospace experience would be beneficial.
Experience of using SAP (MRP/ERP).
Good negotiation and influencing skills.
Have an understanding of the Procurement lifecycle within the context of the manufacturing / engineering project lifecycle.
An understanding of legal aspects and an ability to negotiate bespoke terms and conditions.
An awareness of different Export Controls associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry.

It would be nice if you had:

A good understanding of Export Compliance associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry (or a similar sector)
Background and experience of purchasing engineering products and services preferred.
Experience within the Defence Sector and with the specifics of Defence contracting
