The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express' revenue; Merchant Discount Revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

The Manager in Merchant Pricing - EMEA is responsible for supporting the development of various pricing strategies across EMEA. This position is responsible for driving important broad-scale pricing initiatives aimed at preserving merchant discount rate while balancing the organization's goal to drive coverage whilst maintaining premium economics. This person will partner closely with our business partners across GMS to deliver projects that drive tangible results for American Express.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop sophisticated financial models to analyse various pricing scenarios on new strategies, and answer ad-hoc queries related to the proposed rate changes
  • Project manage European-wide rate impacting projects, such as Account Pricing Review (APR) to align merchant discount rates with the current rate tables
  • Lead and deliver infrastructure projects, providing pricing that is aligned with contractual expectations, and is able to support the implementation of new pricing constructs
  • Own the ongoing maintenance of the custom contract population across EMEA, and be able to explain the changes to the number of custom deals across the region
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations based on detailed data analysis for a variety of high-profile strategic projects to facilitate decision making by senior leaders
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business including the partner management team, servicing and technology teams to drive strategic projects and deliver goals
  • Collaborate with the Global Pricing team to build and develop business critical pricing structures

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong project management skills with full ownership from analysis through to implementation
  • Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of financial data
  • Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint to an advanced level
  • Skills in SAS / SQL and Cornerstone desirable
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral -- with experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, which places a premium on driving results
  • Demonstrated strategic thought leadership and comfort working with unstructured problems
  • Creative thinker who is willing to question traditional ways of doing things and develop new approaches to old challenges
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration skills with the ability to influence others in situations where there may be different goals
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple requests and prioritize accordingly
  • Capacity to remain calm and flexible under pressure
  • Genesis experience preferred but not required
