Practice Accountant/Manager
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to head up the accounts and audit function within a well-established accounting firm. This position works closely with, and reports directly to, the three partners. We are looking for someone to make a long-term commitment to the firm, and there are real opportunities for career progression, potentially to director/shareholder level.
Key responsibilities include:
• Meeting and onboarding new clients
• Oversee the Accounts function, managing the accounts department staff workloads and job allocations
• Planning individual accounts work
• Reviewing staff work
• Corresponding with clients
• Managing and organising Charity Accounts reporting, including audit
• Take on workload from the partners as required, especially in sending accounts to clients
• Assisting with ad hoc advisory work, including dividend planning and cash flow models
• Attend training events to further develop skills and knowledge as required

The successful candidate must be ACA or ACCA qualified, with at least 3 years' post-qualification experience in a practice environment (not industry).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as well as being comfortable dealing with clients both in person, by telephone and over online video meetings. An ability to work independently, with strong organisational and planning skills are required. We expect the candidate to be able to demonstrate that they can anticipate the needs of the department and the partners.
A full driving licence and own transport will be required, as it will be necessary to attend the office and/or client sites from time to time. As it may be necessary to attend an in-person meeting at relatively short notice, this role is only suitable for someone living within a 1-hour commute of our office in Chertsey, Surrey.

A track record of bringing in new clients will be a distinct advantage. Previous experience of IRIS would be desirable, as well as proficiency with cloud software, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel to a high standard

Salary & Benefits
The salary for this position will be in the range of £47,000 to £55,000 subject to experience. We offer 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays, and auto-enrolment into our pension scheme.
A free car parking scheme is available.
A discretionary bonus scheme based on the amount of new business brought into the firm may be considered for the right candidate.

About the firm
Our client was established over 40 years ago, and have an office in Chertsey, Surrey, with a secondary office in Sandhurst, Berkshire. They have 18 staff, including the 3 partners, working across these two locations.
They have a separate dedicated tax department with high level technical knowledge run by our Tax Partner , along with 2 full-time senior staff and 2 subcontractors.

Their Accounts function consists of the remaining 2 partners, along with 5 full-time staff and 4 part-time staff/subcontractors. They look after a wide range of SMEs, both incorporated and unincorporated along with their tax affairs; with some of the companies requiring audits. They also deal with a significant number of Charities, with either independent examination or audit requirements.
They consider themselves to be friendly but professional giving clients practical help and guidance. The same is true of the office environment and how we all try to help each other where appropriate.
