We have a committed Board of Trustees, who possess a wide range of experience and personal skills. However we are now seeking to expand this expertise, by recruiting a further two trustees, who could bring additional skills to the board.

Role description

As a Trustee you will be involved in the governance of the charity, setting the strategic direction as well as supporting the Chief Officer.

Under charity law SWAN WOMENS CENTRE Trustees have the ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of SWAN WOMENS CENTRE, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been set up. In law trustees of SWAN WOMENS CENTRE have three particular duties: compliance, care and prudence.

ESSENTIAL

SWAN WOMENS CENTRE Trustees are expected to demonstrate all of the following personal competencies and the capacity to apply these to the direction of the organisation.

DESIRABLE

We are looking for Trustees who have the knowledge and understanding to maintain an oversight of these activities at a strategic level, and who can contribute well informed views, constructive challenge and a commitment to best practice. A Trustee’s ability to contribute in this way will often, but not always, draw on professional and/or practitioner experience at a senior level.

Experience of running a business or other transferable skills would also be welcome. We are also keen to hear from any one that shares our passion and vision and feels they have something to offer the board.

What difference will you make?

SWAN WOMEN’S CENTRE support and empower women and teenage girls to improve their mental health and wellbeing. We have a history of over 30 years working within the Litherland area of Liverpool. We work with women and girls aged 13+ years, who are affected by or experience anxiety, depression, stress, isolation or other mental health issues. We provide a number of services to support our aims but the counselling services are, by far, the largest of these.

Time commitment

Our current board meet every 6 weeks and meetings are for approximately 2 hours in length. We have a yearly development day for Trustees as well as time limited sub groups that may meet throughout the year. In order to make this role as accessible as possible meetings can be held in person or online or a mixture of both. Currently Trustee meetings are held in the morning but evening meetings can be accommodated. The position of Trustee is voluntary and not remunerated, however full travel and out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
