Woodcraft Folk has an exciting opportunity available for a talented and experienced Communications Manager to join us and help the charity become better known and understood. This is a position where you can make a real change!The role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £26,507 - £31,825 per annum plus benefits.

Woodcraft Folk is an educational movement for children and young people, seeking to develop their self-confidence and promote their participation in social action, with the aim of building a world based on equality, friendship, peace and cooperation.

The successful Communications Manager will be responsible for:
  • Creating, maintaining and implementing the charity's communications strategy
  • Co-ordinating proactive and reactive communications with stakeholders and the general public
  • Supporting staff and volunteers to embed good communications practice in their work

Our ideal Communications Manager will have previous experience of communications management, ideally gained within a voluntary sector or membership organisation, or of working in a membership organisation. This will be complemented by a flair for creating engaging content for a range of audiences, the ability to manage competing priorities and relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and a commitment to Woodcraft Folk's aims and principles.

Experience managing corporate social media and developing brand and visual identity guidelines would be an advantage in this role. Previous experience of a youth work setting would also be highly beneficial.

Key duties as ourCommunications Manager include:
  • Leading the development and implementation of an organisation-wide communications strategy
  • Developing and disseminating resources to support staff and volunteers to promote a consistent visual identity, including a style guide/brand handbook
  • Supporting the Board to review the organisation's branding, and consulting with stakeholders to inform future development
  • Providing dedicated communications support to time-limited projects
  • Working with Woodcraft Folk's outdoor centres to maximise commercial benefit and showcase their delivery of the organisation's aims and principles
  • Commissioning publicity materials to support local groups to promote their activities to potential members and volunteers
  • Proactively identifying and authoring news stories and blog posts from groups, centres and projects to share via appropriate channels
  • Monitoring and maintaining corporate social media accounts to grow reach and ensure they reflect positively on the organisation
  • Proactively seeking media coverage for noteworthy activity locally, regionally and nationally
  • Monitoring the reach of press releases and other media activity and providing feedback to the Board and leadership team

An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
