Head of Education Enhancement

Salary: £51,799.00 - £54,943.00 (with progression to £60,022) per annum

The Role

This role represents an outstanding opportunity for an experienced and inspiring leader to provide expertise across the University in all matters relating to the delivery and enhancement of the University's educational provision, including digital education. You will lead a team providing a range of highly-regarded services including a comprehensive programme of professional development, practical support for innovation in curriculum design and delivery, learning enhancement and digital education. You will provide strategic leadership and a compelling vision for the future development of the Service, working as a member of the wider Academic Services division's strategic leadership team.

Key Accountabilities
  • To work in close partnership with the Pro Vice Chancellor for Education and with academic and professional services colleagues in the development and on-going enhancement of research-informed curriculum design, and the delivery of the University's Education Strategy.
  • To provide strategic leadership in the development of innovative, engaging and high-quality student-focussed education and assessment practices, and associated policy and guidance, and to promote consistency in these across all University campuses and modes of delivery.
  • To lead excellent, sector-leading practice in digital education through the provision of expert services to support its on-going delivery, with an emphasis on delivering a high quality student experience. To champion Faculty-based digital education innovation projects, ensuring that project outcomes are disseminated effectively, and that enhanced teaching practice is adopted with agility across the University, leading to improved outcomes for our students,.
  • As a senior manager within the Academic Services Directorate, and reporting to the Deputy University Librarian, to make an active contribution to strategic planning within the Directorate, across the Student and Academic Services hub, and the wider University.
  • To work collaboratively with senior colleagues in the Faculties and with the Organisational Development Team in providing a comprehensive programme of professional development that engages and inspires both new and experienced teaching staff, including the delivery of accredited programmes.
  • To work closely with colleagues in the Education Governance and Quality Assurance team in ensuring that education provision meets the requirements of the appropriate quality assurance, quality enhancement, statutory and regulatory frameworks, including the TEF.
  • To lead a multi-skilled team of staff, fostering a culture of outstanding performance and instilling the values of excellent customer service and the highest professional standards.
  • To take responsibility for the ongoing evaluation and development of the services provided by the team, ensuring that they benefit our students, and align with the University's objectives.
  • To manage relevant budgets effectively and efficiently, ensuring optimal value for money delivery within the service. To manage the cross-cutting PVC Education budget and any other relevant funding relating to strategic education projects, ensuring excellent and sustainable outcomes and return on investment. To bid for external funding, as opportunity arises, in line with the University's strategic aims.
  • To develop strong internal networks, and to ensure that the University's education and assessment practices are informed through broad consultation with our students.
  • To maintain effective external networks that promote the development of excellent student-centred education provision at the University.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Up to date and expert knowledge of polices and practice relating to learning and teaching and the student experience in higher education.
  • A high level of awareness across a breadth of key issues in the delivery of an excellent education experience, including curriculum development, academic practice, access, success and progression, including issues relating to awarding gaps amongst diverse student groups, and assessment.
  • Expertise in the delivery of digital education, with a strong understanding of the relevant technologies and their potential for enhancing the student experience.
  • Proven record of leadership and innovation in a Higher Education environment.
  • Evidence of successful delivery of complex projects.
  • Evidence of high standards of service delivery, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to develop and implement policy and practice, and to evaluate impact.
  • High level interpersonal, analytical, motivational, negotiating, influencing and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues and other stakeholders at all levels within the institution and externally.
  • Strong IT skills and a familiarity with relevant systems.

Qualifications
  • An appropriate qualification at degree level, or equivalent.
  • A relevant higher degree or professional qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • ILM5, or an equivalent leadership qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Relevant professional recognition, for example Senior Fellowship of the HEA, Fellowship of the AUA.
