Our client, a highly successful Central London commercial practice, is looking to recruit a Head of Compliance . This well-established firm has a culture which is collegial, supportive, and free of politics. The Head of Compliance is responsible for providing a comprehensive risk management and compliance service to the firm working alongside the Managing Partner, Money Laundering Reporting Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Head of HR & Administration. The candidate will be appointed as COLP and MLCO following successful completion of their probationary period. It is anticipated that this role would require 3 or 4 days a week, with a mix of office-based and remote working. Main Responsibilities:Review, monitor and maintain compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures for AML. Monitor new procedures, guidance and current best practice, including Law Society guidance and Financial Action Task Force alerts. Monitor sanctions updates from EU/UK Government and inform Officers of any changes. Advise on areas where AML controls should be improved. Assist with internal enquiries and investigations where necessary and preparation of external reports to SOCA as required. Supervise training of all fee earners and support staff in AML policy and provide ongoing guidance on AML issues. Manage and monitor file reviews in compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct and Rules and that supervise all associated due diligence including ABC, Engagement letters, Outsourcing etcDeliver and/or oversee induction training for new joiners on risk management and compliance Proactively identify risk and recommend solutions to mitigate risk, implementing polices and training as necessary. Maintain and regularly review and update the firm's risk register. Assist with conflicts issues including the analysis of client and own conflicts, advising on the decision as to whether the firm can act, and on the measures to be implemented upon accepting instructionsInvestigate and record all breaches (accounts and otherwise) are recorded in the breach register and that material breaches are reported to the SRA as necessary. Maintain and review the anti-bribery & corruption (ABC) policies and register.Ensure compliance with Data Protection Legislation and GDPR.Assist with preparation for SRA or other compliance audits. Assist with annual PI Insurance and practicing certificate renewalAssist with emergency and business continuity planningThe ideal candidate for this role will have extensive senior compliance experience working for reputable law firms. You will need a strong understanding of the AML Regulations, SRA Regulations, Data Protection and aspects of compliance. You must be a self-starter, have gravitas and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing at all levels. Degree level education and solicitor or legal qualification is strongly preferred.
