CPRE The countryside charity are looking for an experienced and highly motivated public affairs specialist who can raise the profile, improve the reputation and increase the influence of CPRE among policy makers.
Public Affairs Manager
Job ref: PAM
Salary: Circa £40,000
London SE1 0NZ, office based but ability to work 2-3 days from home
The countryside is one of the nation's most valued assets - it's where many people feel most alive and it plays a vital role in improving our mental and physical health, not to mention tackling the climate emergency. CPRE, the countryside charity is campaigning for positive change that will help protect and enhance the countryside, and improve the lives of those people living in our rural communities.
As Public Affairs Manager, you will develop and implement public affairs plans in line with our campaign objectives for our two major priority campaigns: hedgerows and planning. Our hedgerow campaign is a three year priority campaign for CPRE and as part of this, we are trying to persuade the government to commit to a target for 40% more hedgerow coverage by 2050 to mitigate climate change, boost nature and increase economic growth.
Our planning campaign is in response to the government's Planning White Paper published in August 2020 and seeks to secure local democracy, protect local green space and deliver more quality affordable homes as part of the planning process. In 2022, we expect a Planning Bill to be published and you will maximise our influence over the Bill and help lead the work of the 'Better planning coalition'.
We are looking for someone with a real passion and energy for public affairs and politics more broadly - someone tenacious who is motivated to achieve clear lobbying wins on a regular basis. You'll be willing and able to work with various teams and with colleagues across the CPRE network of local groups.
You will be part of the External Affairs team, reporting to the head of that team, but working closely with communications colleagues across the organisation. You will oversee one member of staff, our Public Affairs Officer and together you will run CPRE's public affairs function.
CPRE places high value on equality. We treat everyone with respect and consideration because we know it's the right thing to do. We also know that diverse teams make much better decisions, are more creative and more stimulating to work in. So, if you join us, you will be able to help us put equality, the environment and diversity at the centre of everything we do. We hope you like the sound of the job and will take the time to apply!
Closing date: Midday on Thursday 25 November 2021
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 December 2021
