An exciting opportunity has become available for a UK Engineering Manager to join a forward thinking and fast-growing food/FMCG company in the Taunton area.

My client strives to be the benchmark for bakery products for trade. They supply to some of the major players in coffeeshops, restaurants, retail and out-of-home catering, both in the UK and abroad.

They offer a wide range of products including round cakes, traybakes, cheesecakes, hot puddings, tarts, sweet pies, choux, cookie dough and scones. They develop delicious recipes in line with market trends and consumer needs for authentic, exciting products.

The successful Engineering manager will be responsible for all aspects of engineering and managing teams across 3 sites within the Berkshire, the Midlands and Somerset. The engineering teams are responsible for planned maintenance, responding to breakdowns and some engineering improvement projects. The role may suit someone looking to move from single to multi-site management.

As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for identifying and delivering continued improvement of production capability increasing efficiencies, reducing downtime, improving the PPM schedule; focussing on site safety, empowering the team, managing and delivering capital equipment projects and creating a positive, empowered and driven engineering team.


Health and Safety, ensure the engineering team and its subcontractors comply with all relevant UK legislation and promote safety across the bakeries.
Support the sites on capital projects and manage the implementation of the projects.
Develop and retain team members, driving employee engagement.
Develop enhanced and future fit employee skillset.
Drive employee flexibility.
Support apprentice development to ensure the 'next generation' workforce.
Ensure that the bakeries have robust maintenance plans and that appropriate PPMs are in place and adhered to.
Set targets, making sure that the teams are fully briefed and understand the business requirements and expectations
Work with the site teams to improve quality and efficiency, and to reduce waste and the environmental impact of the business

Training and Qualifications

Excellent engineering knowledge - Engineering or related degree
Experienced in a process injury ideally Food Manufacturing company at an engineering management level.
Appropriate health and safety qualification
Food Hygiene Level 3
HACCP trained
Attentive to detail with good strategic ability
Excellent communication skills at all levels
Powerful facilitator and motivator
Flexible, adaptable and keen to support others' development
Speaking, writing and understanding excellent spoken and written English language.
Good numeracy skills
Kaizen/ Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement knowledge

Additional Information

This will be a Monday-Friday position however weekend work may be required on occasions.

To be considered for this role you will need to have a formal engineering qualification, have team management experience, perhaps having a managerial qualification, a health and safety qualification such as NEBOSH, be comfortable and confident in decision making and relaying info to teams. You will be experienced in managing, leading and developing a team.

There is a need for the successful candidate to be able to travel between sites as time will be spent across all three of our UK sites.

The Salary for this position is £60,000 + Car Allowance
